Hopkins' is better so far. He took career of all the major players between 94-04. You can't say the same for Golovkin for the last 10 years.

Hopkins by miles and that's not a knock on GGG's capabilities. .

    Hopkins easily.

Its debatable if GGG even has 18 defences. He didn't become super WBA champion until 2014 - 8 defences ago. He fought no top 10 MWs while he held the second tier WBA belt.

Sturm was the official WBA champ and he fought and beat top 10 rated Zibik , Castillijo and Sylvester.

Hopkins was the full champion when he made all of his defences . His #1 rated MW contender was high on the P4P list was was dominated and stopped.

GGG struggled badly with his non -P4P rated #1 MW contender.

It's definitely Hopkins right now in time. To me he had better quality of opponents and had a more varied range of skill s. He wasn't koing them quite as easy as ggg but that could be a sign of the strength of Hopkins era.

Has to be Hopkins, and I don't think that will change.
GGG has been more exciting, but his level of opponent doesn't match up. Hopkins seemed to have a tougher division to deal with.

That's why I got deja vu. This is in General as well.

I was wavering towards Hopkins due to the ODLH, Trinidad and Joppy wins.

However, if you examine the way in which the wins have been achieved, then GGG has ruled with an iron fist, whereas Hopkins had to really work at keeping his streak alive.

    So, I voted GGG.

I think if Golovkin despatches Canelo and somebody else that is useful (Saunders, Charlo?) then I'd vote Golovkin on names as well. He's got some solid stuff there, it's just that Hopkins' peaks are higher.

    Yeah that's a good point.
GGG has been dominating in his matches.

Hopkins made pretty light work of Trinidad, Joppy etc. Until Taylor, none of his defenses were as tough and close as Golovkin's against Jacobs.

Have Golovkin beaten any top 5 guys aside from Lemieux and Jacobs?

I think in hindsight Jacobs will be a great win. He really impressed me vs GGG and I think he's still going to do a few things before he's done. The same argument could be made for guys like Lemieux and Brook. Their careers will improve imho.

Anyway, it's pretty close and I can understand why people pick Hopkins..

You know, I did this before, and virtually all his wins were rated in the top 10 by somebody at one point or another. "Top 5" etc is really a bit subjective since he was forced to fight Wade who was rated the #1 contender by the relevant belt organisation  So: rated by who, and when, is the question.

GGG only won 1 of his Belts in the Ring and that was against a guy with 0 Defenses, His reign isnt comparable to Hopkins. But I wuld be really impressed if he beat Canelo, Jacobs again and Charlo. Then we'd be talking
