If only you can watch the films! Yes, Carpenter did land his right easily in round one vs Dempsey, and yes he did suffer an injury.
I first watched the Dempsey V Carpentier fight in1966 when I bought it from Black Hawk Films ,last time I saw it, about 9 months ago it was the same fight, with the same predictable ending which could have happened earlier if Dempsey had put his foot on the gas.
Watching it and remembering it ( for you ) or being honest about what happened are your primary problems. Round one was close, Then Carpenter who was much smaller got hurt. Might the injury have slowed down Carpentier a bit? I think so. Oh Dempsey wasn't shy about mixing in fouls either, was he? While I agree the ending was predictable, it could have been a longer fight without the injury.
It could have been a quicker fight if Dempsey had not done as Tex Rickard requested and, "take it easy on the Frog , we got a million dollar gate ,don't kill the golden goose." I haven't criticized you on this thread, but if you want to get into it make a thread ,subject of your choosing, and I'll gladly publicly humiliate you once again. Just have the decency to keep your sh*t off of others threads. We all know you hate Johnson and don't like Dempsey.
Good light heavyweight. Top 15. Shitty opponent for the heavyweight champ though but Dempsey was supposed to fight Beckett, who Carpentier knocked out. Carpentier definitely had real power in that right hand. Not some Tommy Hearns but for sure had power.
Good light heavyweight sure.Which top 175pounders did he beat? A washed up Levinsky? Who else ? Which of these should we leave out to make room for him? Charles Greb Tunney Fitz Johnson H Delaney Loughran Berlenbach Spinks Langford Gibbons Hill Jones Jnr Conteh Qawi Moore Saad Fox Rosenbloom Muhammad Dillon Conn Bivins Marshall Galindez Johnson M Stribling Maxim Torres Foster Kovalev ??????
Was a good fighter with a knockout punch and good speed and skill was a terror of English HWs. did ok against Dempsey but was outgunned .was also a fighter ace in the French air force during WW1.interesting guy.
He might make the Top 50 heavies but I am putting him behind Hill, Maske, Williams, Toney, Kovalev, Tarver and Jones, Jr. among recent guys.
So I was watching a documentary about the Carpentier-Siki fight. In the movie, they talk about how Carpentier complains of a foul that clearly didn't happen, and that he was relying on some fix to be in to win. Here's the strange thing. Siki absolutely rams Carpentiers with his knee right before Georges went down and started complaining. And doesn't get called for it. What do you guys make of this? Is it in lore that Carpentier falsely accused Siki of fouling? It seemed to be the case from that documentary, but I'm not sure.
Perhaps the pendulum has swung a bit too far the other way in some quarters now? He did have some very tangible wins, and some of them might have lost a bit of lustre over the years.
Am I crazy or is this a blatant foul? https://streamable.com/76wup He kicks him hard as hell. I think you can even see Carpentiers leg twist from the kick. This documentary made it seem like Carpentier fell on purpose, and was clutching his leg as an act.
It was a blatant foul, now that I am aware of it, hadnt noticed it before. Shot's in isolation bring out the good, bad and indifferent, clearly things you might've missed.
