No, that's not what most people just saw, and not why most boxing experts, including long time students of the sport, like Harold Lederman, Steve Farhaed, Al Bernstein, Dan Rafeal, Floyd Mayweather, and others, scored the fight to Kovalev. They saw Kov outland Ward, land the more telling blows, damage his opponents face more, and knock his opponent down. Individually, no single one of the foregoing would necessarily point to a Kovalev victory, but taken together, it's hard to see any other reasonable result. Nobody looked more surprised than Ward, when the verdict was read. Of course it is, Bogo. Implicitly. Triangle theory is the notion that if A beats B, and B beats C, then A will beat C. You said... "Ward has fought and beat (by one point on my card) a fighter much more dangerous than Calzaghe in Kovalev." The clear implication is that if he can beat a more dangerous fighter than Calzaghe, he would beat Calzaghe. If not, what was the point of the statement ? Your point appears to be: Ward > Kov and Kov > Calzaghe ergo, Ward > Calzaghe.
I'm not talking about boxing experts, I'm talking about casual fans and observers, many with no scorecard at all, calling the fight a robbery or having it wide for Kovalev. Lederman's card was terrible however. I'm not saying you can't score it for Kovalev, I just don't care. I saw Ward win 7 rounds, which is what I care about. I don't care about that. It has nothing to do with a potential Kovalev-Calzaghe fight, so it's not triangle theory. Comparing the hypothetical opponent to past opponents is not the same thing as claiming superiority based on performances against common opponents. Saying Foreman should beat Ali because Foreman did better against Frazier would be triangle theory.[/QUOTE]
so you dont deny that you lied when you said he was completely wrong! when in fact he was fully right to call u european, and only wrong is guessing you were possibly british. ok mate your flop continues, keep running from it.
he was ona run of defending the SMW title just like he was when he faced calazaghe, albeit without an injury. ward beat him better without a doubt, there was no need for a 2nd half rally over an injured opponent, he had kesslers number from round 1.
No. Before he fought Calzaghe Kessler was in his best run of opposition. He had defeated two former World Champions and two reigning World Champions in four of his previous five fights - Siaca, Mundine, Lucas and Beyer. Before he fought Ward he had three fights following his defeat to Calzaghe and none of those three opponent had reached the world level and only one of them would go on to accomplish anything - Sartison became WBA Regular Champion a year later. And yes, Ward beat him within the distance but it was a dirty fight and I will never rate a dirty win higher than a clean one.
There was a video posted where JDJ confirms he named his price but I haven't watched it yet so not sure. Team Ward are probably exaggerating things but there seems to be at least some fire to the smoke.
No he did not, Ward clinched and head butted his way to a win by cuts in the 11th. Calzaghe fought Kessler in the middle of the ring and beat him up. Please don't comment if you haven't seen the fights, Wikipedia is not always a reliable source.
I'd rate a dirty win over a fully fit opponent over a clean win over a onehanded opponent. You'd agree too.
Kessler denied being injured prior to the Calzaghe fight. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/7069703.stm "It's been a four-month camp and everything has gone so well, I don't know where any talk of injury has come from," said Kessler, ahead of Saturday's bout at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium. Unless you have indisputable evidence that he was injuried prior to the fight then no, I still dont rate Ward's victory over him higher than Calzaghe's.
this is why I respect your posts, they are evidence based and scientific, ready for adjustment in the wake of evidence presented. If only all posters were like this. thanks.
Nah , Ward deconstructed Kessler in clinical fashion. Kessler really didn't have a clue what was going on in that fight. He got beat from pillar to post. Many of the clinches were initiated by Kessler who just wanted to hold and expected Ward to oblige him except Ward refused and beat him up inside just like Spence with with Brook last weekend. Kessler , like Brook wasn't prepared and had no experience to deal with roughhouse combat on the inside. Sure there was a head clash late on , but that had no bearing on the one-sided ass whooping he was receiving. Ward was butted by Miranda in the first round and fought the rest of the fight with a bad cut. Never complained , he just got on with business.
