Canelo is the same for me ... I mean you can't judge training or a camp by a 24/7 or All access but it seems he tells the trainers the schedule he wants and the fact he trains in his house never bodes well with it been on all his own terms ... He'll come unstuck again soon

I really liked Canelo b4 the Floyd fight and then afterwards he started training at his house and it didnt feel right.

I made a thread questioning it a little while ago and the majority of the responses were, when youre at that lvl it doesnt really matter

But still its an uneasy situation hes created for himself imo

Canelo's yes men and enablers have their own yes men and enablers that's how bad it is with his team.

There's always exceptions to any rule. Also it has something to do with Floyd being the reason why Floyd is so good, like Ward with Hunter, Hunter isn't the reason for Ward's brilliance....... that would be Ward.

Agree 100% on Canelo Chepo seems like a real cool old guy, but Canelo needs a real trainer, because look how good he is with an okay one, he could be amazing.

    Very good post.

Due to the nature of boxing and the mind set needed to reach the top it is understandable why a lot get stuck in the rut that the OP has mentioned. Boxing gives a person many good qualities, but, at the professional level, objectivity is not one of them.

The mentality of a boxer is to believe you are the best and can beat anyone. Just listen to the way they talk, "When I beat (insert name of opponent)...". Saying this is any other sport would get you a load of flak for being arrogant and disrespectful to your opponent. However, in Boxing it is accepted due to the nature of the sport and what it takes to thrive in it. This single minded belief does have its good points, but, it can also lead a fighter to lose objectivity and not recognise certain flaws.

Another point, as has been mentioned, is the hangers on in training camp. This is becoming a bigger, modern day problem and annoyance. Entourages have been around for millennia, but, they seem to be getting bigger these days and seem more of a status symbol than something of positive use. Some boxers, just like rappers, pop singers and film stars all have these bloated gangs of 'employees'. Some have actual uses (trainers, cooks, dieticians, etc), however, more and more these days seem to be full of yes men, people hired to just tell the star what they want to hear. If you just have people back slapping you and telling you what you want to hear then this will eat away at our objectivity.

Also, add in to the fact that a lot of the top fighters are the top men in their respective gyms. When you are the top dog and you are used to beating guys and being told how wonderful you are, it can be hard to notice or accept any flaws you may have.

For boxers not to fall into the pitfalls the OP mentioned, it requires objectivity and an ability for brutally honest self ****ysis.

What a revelation! As if this theory is not practiced not only in sports but in every day life. The definition of insanity is practicing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.:patsch
In terms of boxers -many change trainers multiple times when the results are not there. It is only the obstinate or weak minded who defer to a supposed higher authority in sports related activities.

Well, at least Chavez tried to get out of the echo chamber, unfortunately Nacho seemed to be in one himself, buying his own hype, how in the hell did that old coot delude himself into thinking he could turn Julio Jr. into Marquez or Barrera?

CEJ... if his walking, talking ego father had taken a step back and left his son with Booth, and more so, left his son to be promoted by Matchroom or Sauerlands, he would be a better boxer and be in better fights than he is now. And much wealthier. I can't think of a better recent example of when a boxer would benefit from a change in personnel.

Good read by the way.... I took my Ritalin first, mind...

There's also the reversal of this argument. Prime examples Oscar and Cotto who both I think had too many changes and influences which led both to never win in their biggest fights.

Cotto being the worse of the two having his conditioning coach as his trainer for the Manny fight.

For Oscar he did look sensational against Vargas shoulder rolling, countering and his right hand became more developed but he regressed afterwards.

    Good read nonetheless.
