Almost everybody this guy has fought has been smack in their prime. Say what you want to say, but he steps in the ring and fights the top guys before they are collecting AARP letters in the mail. -Kessler -Dawson -Bika -Froch -Abraham -Miranda Guy absolutely cleaned out the 168 pound division. One of the strongest divisions in his time. And here comes the big one. Sergey Kovalev. I get it that most people think he lost. I did too, but when it comes to resume Ward fought the guy. And he's about to do it again. Kovalev is a legitimate ATG fighter in his prime. Perhaps on the very tail end of it, but still as good or close to as good as ever.
And Ward, whilst an annoying bish ho diva, never forced his opponents to wear different gloves (Maidana I and II) and weren't never caught w/ illegal IVs (Pacquiao).
however the rest of the post is right, ward is not a cherrypicker, not only are those opponents prime apart from bika they are all impressive and possible hof one day.
Fail to see how Kovalev isn't an ATG when Marquez is. When Kovalev was just as dominant if not more dominant a fighter and than Marquez. And the level of competition was just as good.
why did you bring marquez into this. thats YOUR argument, not mine. kovalev remains not yet hof or atg
What more does he have to do to become ATG? He has completely ruled 175 with perhaps the most devastating punch in the game. He has destroyed everybody so hard like Pascal, Cleverly, Chilemba and most people think he actually beat Andre Ward. Who is a gold medalist, cleaned out 168 with absolute ease and hasn't lost since he was 12. If that's not an ATG then how the hell is Marquez ATG? Who built his entire resume (pretty much) on solely one man and didn't even beat cleanly for 3 of the 4 fights.
I dont know what you have against Marquez but thats not relevant here. What is relevant is that Sergey aint finished by a long chalk and has yet to do something that distinguihses himseklf for Hof, and has yet to deliver something outstanding that puts him in ATG. He is not far off but you need to look at his whole career, not half of it,
He's an ATG because he's established himself as the overwhelming force of a long and storied division. Until another purely great fighter moved up to 175 to challenge him. Then he beat said force in the eyes of most. If that isn't ATG...
Even if you don't agree that Kovalev is an ATG. Is there any doubt that a 33 year old Kovalev is a far better opponent than anybody on Floyd's ledger?
no its not enough. you have to wait till hes finished. and thats that. end of. only exceptions are the freak acheivers, like mayweather etc.
