Being one of the many rabid Polish boxing fans who became a fan of Deontay Wilder after he gave us a shout out for the great boxing fans we are after knocking Szpilka's head clear off in the Barclay Center in the big town of New York. I see clear evidence for some reason the establishment does not like Deontay. Mike Tyson has to keep being fed his vegetarian diet so he does what he is told and has put down Deontay every step of the way. Your talking about the undefeated WBC Heavyweight Champion of the World here. Establishment types like Atlas who want to keep his high paying job keep telling us about Deontay's weaknesses. When Tyson was 38-0 all you heard about was his strengths. I find this unfair treatment disturbing. Always a fan of Deontay, Arreola, Fury and the rest who have treated us great great supporting Polish fans of the sport of boxing with respect and kindness and gratitude. Dont care what you Forum freaks think. Deontay, Arreola and Fury will go to their grave Heavyweight Champs. The percentile is below .000001%. Special people in my book. Go Deontay!!!
Apologize for my error did not realize Arreola was not a belt holder. Shows how tough it is. Still a champ in my book. Go Deontay!!!
He fought Jason Gavern in his 32 th pro fight and still hasn't fought anyone. Untill he fights a real, living opponent, I won't support him. It's sad though, because he could have star potential. He's just very, very irrelevant in this sport right now.
Since you brought up Tyson let's use him as an example, Mike went from debut to world champion over the course of 26? fights in a little over a year and a half. He then over the next 2 years from the time of becoming a titlist, proceeded to beat the "lineal" champion and usurp the other titles becoming the undisputed champion. Wilder took 8 years to go from debut to titlist (which he won from the lowest hanging fruit), Then over the next 2 years (nearly 3) proceeded to fight 5 times, against literally no one in the top 15 of the HW division. There's a reason why people went crazy over Tyson and don't over Wilder. /thread
Excellent post, no disputing Tysons accomplishments in boxing. May never be topped. All Time Great Fo Sho. but in Tysons own words athletes get better, different sport now. Wilder did the Olympic thing won a medal for the United States of America in Boxing don't you ever underestimate that. How many medals do USA have in the last 28 years in boxing? Go check it out..not many... Underestimate 38-0 37 ko's go ahead Underestimate representing the United States of America again and traveling to enemy territory for the Heavyweight Championship and leaving with the Russian with his tail between his legs go ahead He is one punch away against Joshua from your next thread title being "How you never under estimated Wilder" Who has the mother of all right hands? Who? The WBC Heavyweight Champion thats who. Go ahead live in the past brotha Its all good man
Stroking is cool. Its safe. Ego's, whatever. But that fight is when me and other fans really noticed him. Thats all. but stroking is safe fun. Keep it up man.
I agree the low regard is insane. Problem is, it's Team Wilder that's most guilty of it. It's about time someone slipped his squad some anti-crazy pills so they grow a pair and match him up better. He's got the nuclear-powered right hand to upset better fighters than him, but his handlers are so apprehensive about him being upset himself that we'll never know what he's really capable of. Too bad. I believe he'd show plenty of heart even if he were outmatched and remain dangerous. The smartest thing they've done is keep him in the dark about their concerns so his confidence stays sky-high. As long as they keep pinning the big fights not happening on everyone else, he won't see how little faith his team's got in him.
I like him. I think the best thing about him is that he's had the level of success that he has had with this shitty ass technique of his, relying mostly on one of the most devastating natural right hands I've ever seen. Give him some elite level training for many years and it's easy to see how his potential for improvement is very high.
Wilder's been outboxed by many of the guys he's faced including Szpilka. That big stiff footballer Washington had him reeling from his jabs. Wilder has very good power ... it's his only saving grace. But he needs to step it up from winos and cans and face somebody with a pulse, and no, Wawrzyk doesn't count. I'd like to see him against Wach, who is a very tough guy who has only failed when facing the highest calibre of opponent. If he beats somebody like that I'll take notice. Or, he could face one of the other belt holders which would be even better.
Bottom line is until Wilder stops talking about it and actually does step up to fight some world level opponents, he's gonna carry on being ridiculed by ex pro's (Tyson), trainers (Atlas) and the fans and, until he does step up, he can't have any complaints.
The low regard is perfectly justified, but it's also something that Wilder could dispel in an instant simply by getting in the ring against a legitimate top guy. He did it against Stiverne and gained massive credit for winning, but since then he's not capitalised on the goodwill he garnered from the fans. He's supposedly one of the best fighters in the world. Well, get in there with a top level fighter then.
