    1. He never got to Russia.

    2. He left the UK before the WBC had made any decision.

    3. The "drug" had only been banned for a few months and really isn't that great..

    4. Povekin was proven innocent and wasn't sanctioned in anyway...

Really the WBC should have stripped Wilder after that because him running off the first chance he got forced them to "suspend" the fight in order to mitigate a huge cluster fuk the Wilder created by running scared..

Wilder actually cried when the WBC told him to fight Povetkin, but then the WBC changed their minds, VADA cleared Povetkin but that was not good enough for the WBC, they did not want Wilder to fight Povetkin, way too dangerous.....................so, Wilder fought a voluntary title defense against another wino......................now he has had five voluntary title defenses in a row, next? Stiverne, fat, old, out of shape, looked awful in his last fight, yes, Stiverne has been inactive, probably too sick and drunk to fight anyone, except Wilder, the perfect fighter for the WBC..........................after that fight? Martin again?

Thats not the same as fighting someone of Povetkin's level.
You cant say he has stepped up because he was going to fight a decent opponent.
He hasnt shown any interest since then in fighting anyone of that caliber - mouthing off on camera about wanting AJ and others doesnt count when your fighting the Washington's of the HW Division.
Wilders resume is woeful for anyone with 38 fights that isn't just a Journeyman.
Also Wilder vs Povetkin is not the biggest HW for the last 25 years.

so deluded, the one name on his record is the one fight that he didnt win by KO, shows that a world level he aint that good. Compare his 19th fight to Joshuas, deontays was against some fat journeymen in a hotel, aj boxed for two belts in front of 90,000 people against a proper heavyweight contender, as soon as wilder fights aj, or fury he gets beat, i would also say bellew, haye, whyte, wlad and parker would be favourite to beat him.

stop saying 'wbc heavyweight champion' he has fought no one and is holding that belt hostage which he got gifted through fighting a shot tope 15 fighter.

Although I totally agree (I don't think Wilder is good enough to be a world champion) the anger should be vented at the broken system which allows Wilder, BJS and the likes to hold their belts hostage like that.

Wilder is smartly playing the game to maximise his income, he surely knows his limits and is fighting accordingly all while promoting himself as the greatest and best heavyweight to walk the earth...

yeah fair enough for wilder doing that but he needs to think about the fans and say to himself the fans dont want to me me fight these guys, i need to test myself against one of the champions before its too late, he should take the aj payday while its here and if he loses you can stil come back.

What's with all the Wilder threads all of a sudden? Some kind of attempt to make him seem more relevant now that he's getting snowed under by Joshua?
He does it to himself. He isn't fighting top guys, and that's why he doesn't get as much attention.

It's very telling if the OP has to put up the name of the guy he didn't fight as validation that he's a legit beltholder.

I totally agree, I much prefer champions fighting big fights and taking on anyone to prove who's #1.

For Wilder it's a bit of an ego thing, he got 900k for beating Washington and at the end of it he still gets introduced as the Undefeated WBC Champ and his American fans lap it up....

Fake news at its best. Its pretty sad when you must lie to yourself just to hate on a guy.

Russian heavyweight contender Alexander Povetkin used the substance meldonium after it was banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency on Jan. 1, 2016, a jury ruled Monday in U.S. federal court in New York.

The jury took just 32 minutes to reach a verdict finding that Povetkin used the performance-enhancing drug during the leadup to what was supposed to be a mandatory fight against heavyweight world titleholder Deontay Wilder last May 21 in Moscow.

The fight was canceled nine days before the fight when a Voluntary Anti-Doping Association-conducted test found that Povetkin had meldonium in his system.

Wilder has great power and his skills are improving..! I'm definately going to watch when (NOT if) he fights Joshua, Parker or Klitschko.

Hmm, great power against bums but he couldn't put away an ill Stirverne so I'll reserve judgement on how "great" his power actually is.

Also 38 fights in and he was getting out boxed by Washington so he isn't improving that much...

What evidence is there that his skills are improving? He looks like he's devolving in skill level to me. Bare in mind he's no spring chicken anymore. Most of his development phase has already passed him by this stage.
