I wonder what Duane Bobick thought of that fight?

Not one for the fainthearted slugg I'll say that. Even the foreman and shavers kos don't look as bad as this. Norton looks one punch away from being put into a coma.

What the hell was the referee doing? Norton was already down and out in his corner with hands down and the ref is too scared to get in between the fighters because Cooney is still swinging away. Watch him hold on to the ropes with one hand and trying to move towards the fighter in stages and attempt to stop Cooney by waving the other hand at him like a man trying to fend off a charging grizzly by waving his arms and trying to shoo him away. :teeth:

My thoughts exactly. As painful as the punches were to watch, inaction by the ref is worse. And then the look on Norton's face after. Lord have mercy.

This fight probably gave cooney that big rep going in to the holmes fight. It was only four years removed from Norton given Larry absolute hell, so when cooney nearly killed Norton the assumption was that he would do the same to the champ.

You can cite "inaction" by the ref till the cows come home. To many inept refs to count!

They call refs in football blind but some boxing refs really need the dog and a stick!

I agree Fergy, that's why I put half a thou on Larry to beat Gerry! The bookies didn't see it that way so I only pocketed about $380 as Larry was the clear fav.
