I blame this loss on Hunter. Fonfara looked to be thinking too much. And why did he stop the fight I don't know. He's just terrible. Ward seems to be always on his own. But Hunter motivates him I guess.

All fair points actually. I've been a boxing nut for almost 20 years now. When I started as a boxing fan I used to think the sport was a couple of cavemen slugging it out as so I'd favor the biggest caveman to win. Then I grew to appreciate the sweet science of the sport. So I always thought the better tactician would win regardless of other factors. Now I know that old blown up super middleweights who haven't been challenging themselves don't beat fresh hungry, undefeated, naturally large for the weight contenders when those contenders have good speed and fundamentals.

Essentially, what I'm saying is that at the very elite level where all the guys can take punishment and doll it out on anyone the intangibles matter a lot. And those intangibles often favor the younger fresher fighters. This is why despite thinking he was the worse athlete and boxer I picked Errol Spence last week. Didn't want him to win....but knew he was going to.

Any promoter who ever puts Fonfara in the main event or co main event of a future card deserves a public flogging.

Ya but if Alvarez has an answer for the left hand there is literally nothing else Adonis has that could save his ass. You don't think Alvarez could prepare for the left? GTFO he's an Olympian and a decorated amateur champion with very solid boxing skills. Don't see many of those that Stevenson has fought. Do you?

Stevenson offers the southpaw style and he's a good body puncher. He does more than just throw a straight left.

I don't think that Stevenson can beat Ward or Kov but he's a dangerous fight for both guys.

Fonfara is obviously not on Stevenson's level I think most who picked Fonfara thought age and inactivity would make this the night Stevenson looked his age and Fonfara happened to be in the right place at the right time.

I also don't think anybody thought Fonfara must have forgot Stevenson is a leftie when he was training.

true but realistically if he doesn't have a left hand bonanza against Alvarez the rest of the tools he has wouldn't win him the fight. Bute and Pascal are both pretty decent punchers and Alvarez handle them reasonably well. IMO he could come through the odd Adonis left and still win the fight, so long as he was also able to land his own office. He can definitely do that so much like Spence had to gut it out against Brook I'd pick Alvarez to gut it out against Stevenson.

Someone should've told Joe Smith that winning wasn't the way to land a title shot

I think he is mostly dangerous for Ward , as i think he wont be under attack as ward will be looking to counter that will let the pimp time to try and drill him , as we saw Ward being KD , i suspect if he get caught he WILL be hurt , Kov on the other hand will be much more busy which might be Adonis downfall , one thing he still had tonight is speed and he will counter kov with good power but Kov being more active will probably be the end of him.
A lot of ppl here dont give him a chance which i find weird , but ce la vi , Ward didnt want that action @ 168 when Adonis was calling him out years ago , and Kov didnt came to a bidding scheduled by his own promoter eveything else is noise , Also ward said "Stevenson doesnt deserve a fight balbalbalbal" both man are not that confident like 99% of the posters here.
I hope stevenson give the fans some big fights before he retires , because for now he did not do enough to be remembered 1 week after he retires which is a shame as he is talented.

Smith knocked Fonfara out, so that qualified Fonfara for a title shot, WBC, just like Wilder, five voluntary title shots in a row against winos from the alley and now the best heavyweight in boxing history, Stiverne!

Virgil Hill taught Fonfara how to beat Chickenson................

I'd like to see Alvarez-Gvozdyk, just to see the duel of jabs.

It'd be like 2 highly skilled fencers squaring off.
