I think he has lost a bit in the past few years TBH. He is almost 40, which I have to say he seems younger than that when he boxes. He fought a decent string of opponents in 2013/2014, no one great though really, but still impressive to beat them all back to back.
Stevenson never fought anyone with a pulse. His best win is a ruined Chad Dawson who screwed up his own career when he drained himself to zombie to fight Ward and was never the same after that.
Not hard when you're facing low quality opposition, His best opponent in the last 3-4 years is Fonfara.. What else is there to say? And whilst Fonfara is not a bad fighter by any means, he's got a glass jaw, Stevenson matches up well with him.
I think what's most impressive about Stevenson is his opposition knows he's essentially a one handed fighter, yet very few can even make it to the late rounds against him. He's an unorthodox fighter who has a tremendous left hand that can hurt a guy even if it doesn't land flush. When you have that type of 1 punch KO power, you can neutralize guys in the snap of a finger. Wilder isn't a good boxer either but that right hand gets him out of trouble quickly. He was clearly losing in his last fight until his straight right started to land. I actually think Adonis is a very entertaining fighter, it's just time he faces someone with a pulse. It's sad the guy walks around claiming he's the lineal champion and that he doesn't need to fight anyone. Kovalev and Ward are clearly the best in the division irrespective of titles. I'd love to see Adonis take on Artur next or obviously the Kovalev-Ward winner. Anything other than those 2 matches is unnecessary at this stage in his career.
No , not garbage at all.. Rigo and Ortiz have no right hand either. What does he need a right hand for when he has a great left one. He's very good at what he does even if its just the same formula over and over.
Yes, he gets by with it with his resume to date, when and if he steps up his level of competition guys will actually have a defense and ring IQ to take away his one dimension.
hes getting old. i wish he fight a real threat before hes out of it. boxers now a days can last longer. an that prison time maybe preserved him.
