In a completely fictitious world (and time lines here are not correct but to give an example of sorts), but when Douglas beat Tyson, would you say who cares if Douglas had of relinquished the titles and fought against and beaten 10 unknown HWs whilst say Holyfield was fighting Bowe, Holmes, Foreman etc?
Is lineal important to you in a situation like that?

 

The lineal title always counts. It wouldn't matter who Holy fought...Buster is the lineal champion. He can be traced historically.

Personally I think a lineal title is only as good as who it is defended against and wouldnt read much into it if another fighter was taking on better comp.

In today's boxing only Undisputed or Unified mean something. Lineal is for the nostalgics
