I don't know if he'd beat Tua. He might beat Byrd.

I've never seen Fulton fight. If he had good boxing skills and a 84inch reach he has a great chance of beating Tua. He beat a pretty good puncher in Sam Langford.

I agree. But it's impossible to say what level he was at. I can't right him off completely.

Who knows. Maybe not. Tua was powerful but had a very limited ring IQ, I wouldn't rule out someone small having his number.
I'm guessing there are middle-light-heavys who have Byrd's number.

Please remind me, what did Tua actually do?

 

David Tua was a good fighter with great power and he compiled a good record.
But he could be outboxed for long spells and "relied on" bailing himself out with a late KO punch against some very ordinary fighters from what I remember.
Maybe he could do that against every boxer of Dempsey's era but I doubt it. Some there are probably going to make it to the final bell ahead on points.

 

I know all that...But what did Tua do? What fighter was relevant when he beat him? His best win, that sort of thing...

 

He beat some decent fringe contenders and fellow prospects on his way up.
John Ruiz, David Izon, Oleg Maskaev, Darroll Wilson.
He beat Hasim Rahman (somewhat controversial).
Dannell Nicholson was another fringe contender he beat.
Fres Oquendo and a past prime Michael Moorer.

He knock guys out and stuff.

Tua won the fight. Sorry you only watched a highlights video. Ibeabuchi said himself that he just kept throwing against Byrd.

I'm saying facts to win an argument. Something you do NOT do. End of discussion.

In his own time Tony Galento did the same kind of thing. Lots of forgotten contenders matched Tua too.

As time goes on less people will remember or bother to wonder who David Izon and Fres Oquendo ever beat. Where as contenders from the Jack Dempsey times remain noteworthy. Billy Miske, Bill Brennan, Fred Fulton, Luis Firpo, gunboat Smith, Carl Morris, tom Gibbons, battling levinsky, George's Carpentier...they all had wins worth talking about.

I'm not sure that matters much but it must say something.

 

He made the Ring's Annual Top Ten Heavyweight Rating for 8 years, as high as number 4. I imagine he was either really good at fooling knowledgeable people or actually did something worth the note he attracted.

 

Dempsey, and moreso the opponents that basked in his glow, was largely famous for being famous.

 

Dempsey was primarily an aggressive counterpuncher. I don't know why you keep denying this.

 

I don't keep records of my scorecard for fights a watched months ago. I just remember Tua coming on strong in the second half and convincingly winning enough rds to score a decision.
