How come on a boxing forum the last question to be asked is if a fighter can fight?

    Three possibilities:

    1. You've never seen Joseph Parker fight
    2. You're being intentionally obtuse
    3. You're unable to assimilate what you're watching

Whichever option applies to you doesn't change the fact that Parker has world class handspeed to match almost anyone in the top three divisions.

I highly doubt it's only myself and Seamus that hold that particular view, kiddo.

I've seen Joseph Parker fight he does not have that much speed. He's okay for today. However no way to persuade either of us with the old I see it so your wrong argument. Although I do enjoy the discussion.

This thread is becoming increasingly off the wall.

They don't have to be fast. They're fighting other HW's, not featherweights. They only have to be faster than the
    HW in front of them.

Well you're right. If you can't see that Parker has top flight speed in his punches then there's not much I can do to convince you otherwise.

I suppose I could ask you which heavyweights of yesteryear you thought were faster, but you'd probably say someone like Liston or Marciano, so I'm not sure what use that question would be.

I'd probably say Louis and Dempsey. I'm not backing Marciano's speed with anyone.

OK, Louis and Dempsey. That's fair enough. But that much faster? Parker's delivered four punches in under a second before, knockout punches, not pitter pat shots. This is at 230+lbs.

Maybe not a huge deal faster but enough you'd definitely tell the difference. I've had to watch Dempsey and Louis over and over just to try and see exactly what punches were thrown. The punch that kos Braddock is lightening fast.

The point I believe you were originally making was that the larger heavyweights' greater size would not compensate for their disadvantages in speed and "velocity" (which I took to mean explosiveness) when clearly that is not the case. Even slower heavyweights like Foreman were still able to punch harder than their smaller, quicker counterparts so it'd take an absolutely monumental gulf in speed to even the odds here. As you can see from the clip below, Parker's a tremendously explosive athlete himself, even when you factor in his added size.

Parker is very explosive but no offence to him. He's in there with another large guy. How do we know he'd look as fast against smaller more mobile opponent? Like even an Rjj type.

That's where skill and delivery ability come into play. You're actually more likely to see a fighter's true speed when they're teeing off on slow, stationary lumps, not equally speedy illusive types.

That makes sense. That's why Louis and Dempsey look so fast against their more stationary opponents but look looks slower against guys like Tunney and Conn.
