So it's the holyfield that held Lewis to a draw then lost a decision to him, replacing Charles of the two marciano bout s. How does this version of the real deal do up against the rock? Two shots at marciano.. What happens?
The first fight is the hardest for both men. Rock comes forward constantly whilst holyfield snaps off counter shots. Rocks face tells the story half way, cut s and closed eye. But rock up s the pace from the tenth and holyfield starts to struggle. A furious last round sees both guys blasting each other. The bell goes and both men embrace. The decision is split. A rematch takes place and holyfield is once again in control early busting up rocks face. By the 8 th marciano is Bleeding profusely from a cut near his eye. Half way through the next round marciano suddenly cuts through and drop s holyfield hard. He rises but marciano swarms all over him, finally dropping him again. Up again at 8 the ref waves it over. A heroic battle from both men.
Real horrible fight for them but great for us fans. Neither would bounce back from it 100%. Holy v Frazier is the same !
For Evander to have a real chance against Maricano, you'll have to pick his cruiser or early heavyweight days when he could still volume punch and stay light on his feet for more than a few seconds a round. Evander of the Lewis fights had to pick his moments and fight in spurts. And no matter how much Evander weighed, his punching power was his accuracy and timing which was diminishing. Great fighter still, but he just don't have the tools for this one. His lack of monster power, speed, and stamina is disastrous against Maricano who is going to be forcing him into an uptempo brawl. I see Evander getting stopped, probably in the mid rounds.
Holy would never lose to a fighter 2 stone lighter, its impossible. Holyfield picked up and dropped in to the 70's wrecks a lot of peoples nostalgia dreams, and they are fellas the same size of him. Ali Norton frazier foreman, all them boys would take loses in trilogys, no probs against the real deal. The rocks not a heavyweight, it don't get to the return let alone trilogy
Joe Louis was a physically powerful man about the same weight and height as the aging Evander. Marciano was able to frustrate and wear down the older fighter with his movement and activity, and despite the weight difference, Rocky was able to push the bigger man in the clinches and move him with his punches. I agree, they all could take loses in Trilogies to a more youthful Evander. But we are talking the 36/37 year old that couldn't put two strong active rounds together back to back and struggled to pull the trigger. He probably loses to all them guys if they are in their primes, he couldn't even edge Ruiz in a Trilogy at this stage of his career.
I've always thought that Holyfield would have been bad for Marciano. Works hard, great chin, speed, strong. However Marciano works harder than Holyfield imo. That counter and clinch wouldn't work against Marciano though. Marciano by late tko but Holyfield has a pretty good chance here the next closest outcome I would see is Holyfield UD. If Marciano got cut bad he would end Holyfield's night like he did to Charles.
Is there? Despite trying for a knockout, an aging Evander couldn't put a dent in a 34 year old Bobby Czyz, who was crudely swarming for 5 rounds until the "accidental" substance in the eye stoppage. Czyz was a durable middleweight and light heavy but not as durable as a prime 30 year old Marciano. yes, Czyz was 211 at his career heaviest, but he basically just put on 20 pounds of fat to face Evander at heavyweight.
