I think he will be outsized, outgunned by the bigger, stronger men there. Even if he gets past GGG, he still has to contend with the younger more explosive fighters such as Jermall Charlo, Danny Jacobs, David Lemiuex, Sergei Derevenchenko. Canelo will be giving either height or range or power. He was best suited at 154. But even at 154 he stayed away from Andrade and the Charlos. I see Canelo getting beat at 160. Oscar best option is to hope for a great GGG fight, possibly close decision either way with a big selling rematch. GGG about to cash out. As I've been saying for quite some time GGG is on his way out. Were he 30 he'd be dominating the division like it's no ones business. Assuming GGG beats Canelo I see him going after BJS and then moving up to fight a Groves in UK for those pounds. GGG won't stay at 160 where he would have to fight the same names such as Jermall Charlo, Jacobs, Derevenchenko for high risk low reward. I'm glad the fight is happening between GGG Canelo. I don't see a long future for either fighter tho as Canelo too small for 160 and GGG about to age out
I understand and appreciate your points but the 164 Chavez fight he looked comfortable (although Chavez is not elite IMO). Time will tell...post GGG with whatever happens - heaps of good matchups for Canelo and if he loses in the fights you mentioned above...I don't think it'll be a weight issue.
Just for arguments sake, where would you rank Canelo as an ATG if he beat G and all those younger guys at 160?
He'd definitely be in the discussion. That would be a great accomplishment as he'd be giving up height reach and power
I've said for a long time now that I expect Canelo to be comfortable at the weight as he was practically killing himself at 154 and according to Hearn Canelo wanted to be at middleweight when he was facing Liam Smith but Oscar made him look bad for avoiding the division all because of one man. I expect he'll be quicker and have more energy about him but in my opinion Instead pushing duff pay per views against a guy who looked like he nearly killed himself making weight he should of done what Ward did and have at the very least two tune ups at 160 so he could get a feel for the weight and opponents at middleweight. I'm in agreement that he could struggle against GGG cause if you think about it discarding that awful Chavez fight he's always had the mental edge of being bigger on fight night than his opponent but against GGG it's back to normality and I'm not sure if he likes that?
Such an intriguing fight this, when I think of Canelo I think of him stalking after em all the time, even against Floyd Mayweather who gave him such a one sided fight Canelo never stopped trying to walk him down. Now then what happens when you put both together in a ring as I can't imagine Golovkin changing his stalking style either and maybe it comes down to their respective jabs? Will Caneleo change his own style and try and do what Ward does to frustrate the hell out of Golovkin? Can't wait ti find out.
Canelo has never fought at 160 before and he is facing a career and DOMINANT MW. Get your sensible heads on and use logic here. GGG should beat this guy convincingly unless Oscar rigs it for a rematch.
Absolutely,he had a free slot but was injured. I don't think anyone could call him for fighting these guys but Pay per views against Liam Smith was the order of the day. If he does lose to GGG I hope he gets respect as losing to Floyd and Golovkin is nothing to shame about.
