I'm not stating he is. I'm just wondering what this forum thinks because of the first match with Kovalev and just in a general sense. Is he as good as advertised? Cant say I followed his career extensively.
No way his resume is amazing but Larry Marchent hit the nail on the head re Ward, his style is just not good to watch and is the reason he's not as popular as he should be,you are onto something though and he looked very limited in those first two rounds against SK,imagine then if he ended up in a fight where the ref wouldn't stand for the wrestling?its something I wanna see actually as I believe it would free him up.
Yes. He's still elite but his skill set is not on the level of other P4P fighters. Also I think his resume whilst very good gets vastly over exaggerated.
He's comfortably a top 5 P4P champion. He owns one of the best resumes atm. He just had a very good and close fight with who was considered the #2 P4ap fighter in boxing. Anyone who doesn't give him is dues is just a hater and nothing more.
hes a very good boxer, great reflexes, timing, footwork, and hes tough. but his toughest fights forced him to go outside the rules, i also wonder how well he would fare if he stayed within the boxing rules. good resume, not atg, but good for the era.
Yes, SOB is overrated, he does not fight, he just counts on his personal judges and referee to give him the fight whether he wins or loses, such as Kovalev/SOB first fight..............116-111 at best, really not that close, but Harold Lederman had that score and he hates Eastern European fighters, he wanted SOB to win............
No he's not overrated at all. He's underrated if anything. He beat the elite at Super Six so convincingly. More recently, Sullivan Barrera is turning out to be a good fighter and Ward had an even fight with an elite guy who is the unified champion who's naturally bigger than him (the evenness of this bout thus leads me to believe that P4P Ward is actually most probably better than Kovalev).
who has done more than him and also is prime and still at the very top of their game? this guy surpassed his smw rivals ottke turniphed, frottage, kessler debris and cowardzaghe with his first title fights in the smw division as a green young man. Hes something else by now.
He's not popular and he doesn't have a fan friendly style, but that's beside the point. Love him or hate him he's unbeaten, has one of the best resumes around and is a 2 weight champion. The skill he has is clear, he has some of the best footwork, great fundamentals, superb inside skills and is adaptable. He's clearly one of the best fighters right now, if he wasn't he wouldn't have been so competitive with Kovalev and wouldn't have the resume he has. I just wish he wasn't such a PR nightmare, Ward will never be a draw, he could retire 100-0 and nobody outside his hardcore fan base will ever care. But no I don't think he's overrated.
He wasnt before kova fight but everyone takes a dump on him now like he was gifted a win (to close either way to call it a gift) And where others **** on him for that performance i instead focus on traits i rarely see in any other fighter -gets bullied beaten and knocked down by one of the best fighters and scariest punchers on the planet p4p... remains cool, calm and collected pushes forward makes the adjustments and turns the fight on its head in the later half of the fight Most guys go into survival mode after having a kovalev calibre fighter put such an imposing performance on them early. Remembering of course people allready refused to believe ward had the balls to go up and fight kova so they were wrong, OH SO WRONG before the first bell rang
Yeh i think going into the first fight we all kind of agreed the winner takes p4p top spot but because it was razor thin we all kind of just left chocolotito there. Now that he lost you are kind of forced to give the top spot to ward... or maybe u can say both guys share #1 spot until the rematch
