It was Williams not Witherspoon and on 3 weeks..im not sure if he had taken the withspoon fight on short notice either,i remeber hearing he did take a short notice fight a few times..,i remember the announcers saying it and Holmes after that fight......heres a quote i found..."This man was ready. He's been training with Marvis Frazier and I've been training for three weeks. I took this fight on three weeks notice."

Anyway heres a little tid bit on the Witherspoon fight..

Assured of a $2.1 million payday—to Witherspoon's $250,000—Holmes came in weighing 213 pounds, just as he did when he beat Norton for the title on June 9, 1978. Later, Holmes would admit that at 213 he was too light for Witherspoon, who proved much stronger than the champion expected. And it certainly didn't help that after Thursday's weigh-in, Holmes ate "a lot of corn and rice and steak." Friday morning he awoke with a bad case of diarrhea. It left him not only light but slightly weakened.

Whats interesting here is Holmes is self admitting he would be STRONGER at a Heavier weight, though around here size is irrelevant? lol

    I
I once read a article Stevie, that basically called witherspoon a poor man's Norton. In that Norton fought in a tougher era than spoon and ken was more successful. And they even both could fight in a similar fashion with the x defence. But a match up between them sounds good. How u got it going Stevie?

How does that work? Larry was champion. Surely he called the shots..?

And if he gave himself diarrhoea before the fight, that's his own fault. He'd been champion for five years and should have worked out what to eat by then. And as a heavyweight who didn't need to make weight, Gawd knows why he binged after the weigh in. All sounds a bit rum to me. If Larry Holmes was the type to make excuses and b*tch, I'd suspect he was talking out of where the judges of the first Michael Spinks fight were invited to kiss.
