Ward is an acquired taste and while I'll admit his style isn't the most visually pleasing he does operate on a level that i find intriguing. He's a master at closing distance, nullifying his opponents best weapons and completely mind f@cking them. In its rawest form boxing is a fight and if you trust your craft can overcome and overwhelm Wards many layers and gears you should have no problem clipping him while he attempts to dictate the flavor of the fight....right? I have yet to see anyone dictate and direct the script vs him in the ring. He's doing something right.
Well why are you posting on here? I'll ask again. If Ward is the smaller man at what weight did he win his gold medal?
From what I understand, Ward fought up in weight so his buddy Dirrell could fight at super middleweight.
But he was still a light heavyweight. I'm just not down with the notion that Ward is this little guy standing up to the big bully. Ward was a big 168, who in his own words finds it hard too make 175.
Pac fought for a 154 belt. Does that make him a light middleweight? You asked a question about Ward fighting at light heavyweight in the Olympics. I answered your question that he fought up in weight.
From this day forward because of your incessant dick riding of Russian fighters, I'm only going to talk boxing with you when it comes to non Russian fighters. You have no knowledge of those kinds of boxers. None.
The first fight was wards first world level fight in like 4 years and he also had a period of inactivity, To move up in weight and give Kovalev such a close fight with that inactivity and just a few tune up fights is impressive, Tune up fights with bums don't prepare you for the elite. I believe ward will have dusted off a lot of ring rust in the last fight and i predict we will see much improved more reminiscent of the old master boxer version of ward this time around.
No but Pac was never big at 147. Ward fought at LHW in the amateurs as did Kovalev they're the same size.
I would have to agree with this post. Ward is a legitimate talent. Very, very good at boxing. He knows what he's doing. It's just that simple. Dude is good. I thought Kovalev won the first fight as did most. Kovalev needs to win clear against Ward for me to rate him higher than Ward p4p. Since Ward is the smaller guy I'd give him the edge if it's a toss up fight.
the kovalev thst showed for both ward and chilemba? had major conditioning problems and was a dead man after 6 rounds. how he fought ward in rounds 1 thru 3 dominating him, that's how I expected kovalev to fight every single round. he couldn't, fell flat on his face. he has to totally dominate ward for him to even enter my p4p rankings. removed him after 2 horrific performances. kovalev flat and weak still fought even with ward in the second half. ward showed me more losing that kovalev did beating him. fyi: ward is NOT smaller than kovalev, just because ward used to drain himself doesnt actually make smaller. ward was always bigger and much stronger than his smaller smw opponents. kovalev fought far below his talents vs ward..ward showed tons of determination
