This is pretty much a 50/50 pick 'em fight. I go with Ward because he's much more 3 dimensional than Kovalev. Kovalev hasn't shown that much versatility in his fights which matters in the rematch. He showed me that his finishing skills aren't that good either. From the footage I watched, Kovalev tried to finish Ward in the 2nd but just couldn't get the job done. Pretty much Ward has seen everything of Kovalev. It will be a UD win for Ward.
First, thanks for the info- and I've read your posts with interest all the while. I like fair posts. While I can't apologize for anyone else's statements, conduct, etc., I feel I can speculate on their activities as long as I state that it's my opinion or interpretation- rather than a fact. I personally agree that Kovalev has been petulant, but I am not sure I can really blame him for that. He had, IMO, just beaten one of the top PFP fighters on the planet and somewhere around 65% of the rest of the world thought so, too. He undoubtedly knows that and continues to feel he was robbed. Then he is fed the "I am A Side and you are not" BS that goes along with a loss into a rematch. I'd be frustrated, and possibly petulant, too. I take as a given that he is still adjusting socially to being here and probably will be for quite a while. He probably still struggles with understanding how to filter his comments, and understanding what is appropriate in the language, and what is okay for selling tickets. I expect him to make all kinds of communications mistakes. He's not as socially correct as I think Golovkin tries to be. I keep in mind that he's a fighter, rather than a florist. I expect some roughness. (Golovkin's sweetness and constant smile make him a little more scary to me, actually. He smiles at you before he tries to decapitate you.) The key to watching for the truth is seeing if a person (with English as a 2nd or 3rd language) makes the big communications mistakes more than once or twice. Particularly with a well-known individual, the people around him will immediately correct him afterwards- if he is making himself look bad. If he keeps making racial slurs (for example) after he clearly understands what he is doing, then there's a problem. I think we will see over time. Would his own team really stick with him if he is an actual racist? Does he actually control what goes out on social media? Are his statements and actions part of a plan to make and keep him "the bad guy"? I keep in mind that we are all subject to what the media says and most of media is slanted to purpose. Great to talk with you.
Ward takes it. Damn i really didnt want to say it and i hope i am badly wrong. I maintain Kovalev won that 1st fight, just, but i just dont see him doing anything differently this time round, he will of learnt nothing from the 1st fight, Ward will of learnt a hell of alot, Kovalevs plan will be exactly the same as the 1st fight but with a higher output, Wards wont. aslong as Ward survives the 1st 4 or 5 rounds he has this on points. Kovalev says he trained too hard last time yet ive seen him tire and gas out from the 6th plenty of times, usually he gets away with it cuz he is dominating his opponent, He said he is going to smash Ward and seems really angry which suggests he is going to put even more effort into the early rounds than he did in the 1st fight so he is guna gas hard and quick in his persuit of Ward. Fingers crossed im wrong, Wards a wanker.
Lol! This thread is entertaining! "Bu... Bu... But Ward wadn't hurt doe! H.. He got up before da count doe!" Meh.. you're probably right. It was just a slip! Ward has NOTHING to worry about Saturday This content is protected
This is strange: It seems like more people are picking Ward to win this second time around than the first??? Deep down they probably realize how easily Kovalev should have won the first fight yet still had boxing's status quo steal it from him now this time the same screw job infra structure is in place in conjunction with NOT getting PED tested(The Mayweather/Jacobs effect) is the impetus for picking Ward.
I picked Kovalev by decision on my first fight felt I was right despite judges and I will pick him again same way this time. However I also feel he could stop Ward this time too
Kovalev needs to bring back the feinting monster in him Terrify Ward with what might be coming from any angle Kovalev is a masterfeinter, and a master with his p thrust
Ward is the much more multi-faceted and dynamic fighter. But he just can't punch. Kovalev has an absolute absurd power advantage. Which makes this a 50/50 fight.
Exactly, that's the reason why I said Kovalev would beat him the first time that I laid out in my Madrigal thread, he did a half time version of that in the first match, this time he needs to go all out. Masterfeinter Indeed.
Ehhh I wouldn't call either man a classy fighter or person. They are far from the Kessler and Martinez mold of upstanding guys. Kovalev can be at times pretty uncouth and savage. Kovalev is the all time perfect goon. He's real life muscle. But Ward is a smug passive aggressive jackass. There is just something real conceited about the guy. Doesn't come off as unassuming at all.
