Excellent fighter, very difficult to get an accurate opinion of him, he did "some business" passing the parcel in upsets and winning returns. Well schooled and compact ,his thrashing of Tommy Collins became a " cause celebre" he floored Collins 10 times in 4 rds before the fight was stopped, referee Tommy Rawson was roundly criticized for letting it go on as long as he did.
Carter career was helluva fighter when on song however he was always tainted as a mob linked fighter . He looked awesome defeating George Araujo ( coming off victories against Sandy Saddler, Joe Brown and Paddy De Marco ) and then for some reasons looking less the stellar losing to Bud Smith and Paddy De Marco.
