On Wikipedia and other sources it says that pacquiao is an 8 weight division world champion yet if you look on box rec he has only won world championships in 6 weight divisions?

    He's not, one of boxing's biggest myths/facades.

He's at most a 4 division world champion, he was never truly legit, never the commanding force, never truly lineal in any of those divisions either. Never.

He had a career that spanned 11 weight divisions. Light Flyweight to Light Middleweight and won a bunch of titles in between. If that isn't one of the top 2 or top 3 most impressive feats in boxing, give me another example of a Flyweight who did the same. We've had great Flyweights in the past, Gonzalez, Canto etc. but none have come close to that, in fact none even came close to even dreaming about doing that, but Pac did it.
    - words of Max Kellerman.

If he hasn't won the championship, he's one titles or beaten THE guy in whatever division he's in.
*****'s find it so unbelievable that they give him no credit for it, saying he's on roids instead whenever this is brought up, or they mention catchweights even though Pac was much smaller and absolutely none of the fighters had problems making weight as per their own words and that they had no excuses.

Flyweight, Super Bantam, Feather, Super Feather, Light Welter, Welter. That is amazing, but yeah you're right, that's 6.

    1. 11 weight divisions? It was barely 4, in reality and he was never truly lineal or the dominating force in any of those divisions. He was also never p4p #1 until Floyd retired. When Floyd returned, Floyd immediately reclaimed that spot.

We give him credit for some decent wins, but Floyd's resume is so much greater. It's unreal.

i never discredited what he has achieved or said that he wasn't great, im saying he shouldnt be called an 8 division world champion because he didn't win world title fights at 8 different weight classes.

Too many catchweight fights that cheapened the sport and are less credible wins than they would have been at the Divisional limits.

Pacquiao took over the #1 mantle after the DLH/Hatton/Cotto run.

Whether you like Pacquiao or not in turns of achievements he has PBF beat, and by some way. The guy won fights he had absolutely no right to be in.

PBF ranks higher H2H and for being undefeated, but Pacquiao did the impossible.

He never did the impossible, Floyd did the impossible.

He took the #1 mantle because Floyd had retired due to a body injury. Once he returned and beat Marquez, he reclaimed #1 already.

26-0 in world title fights, undefeated in 49 fights, soon to be 50.

5 weight world champion, Floyd was prime at 130 and should have ended there.

Floyd's resume is seen to be greater and for good reason. Of course, he also wiped Pacquiao out!

Of those 26 title fights which ones were Floyd not a favourite in? The only ones I can think of were vs Corrales and the odds for DLH were about even.

Winning fights you are meant to win...really impossible.

I'm not trying to put PBF down here as I'm a big fan, but I'm also a fan of Pac. The guy was a flyweight beating up welterweights.....it's the equivalent of PBF going up to 168 and beating down the guys there.

Both guys amazing. And both deserve to be ranked amongst the best fighters ever.

Anybody can dissect and discredit a career of any boxer.
But what pac has achieved is truly unique and might not be duplicated again in a long time if ever.
Name me a fighter since boxing was invented who won title from flyweight to welterweight and beat ATG and HOF along the way.

Yeah, LFly, Fly, Super Fly, Bantam, Super Bantam, Feather, Super Feather (where Floyd started, 6 divisions north of Pac i.e like Canelo going onto fight Larry Holmes at Heavyweight) Light, LWW, WW, LMW = 11 weight divisions.

Name me one at or near prime TBE level fighter, Higher end ATG, Mid ATG, lower tier ATG, higher tier HOF, Mid-tier HOF, lower-mid tier HOF on Mayweather's resume in 19 years of boxing! Name me one! Easy work when you're fighting people no way near your league - despite that, Floyd lost prime for prime to Castillo in the opinion of most, and had a fake shoulder injury that there's no medical evidence for in a fight where he used his 'injured shoulder' much more than Pac used his at MayPac15!

These records get exaggerated and bend in meaning all the time.
8 weight champion, with today's different and sometimes meaningless belts. That they could even fabricate Broner as a "4 weight champion" should tell you enough.
49-0 as some sort of record, while it's actually the heavyweight winning streak record (no hw has ever done that besides Rocky), while it was also some minor record as the highest record anyone ever retired with without draws or nc's on it. The actual streak record in the lower weightclasses is 88-0 if I recall, and with quite a couple with over 60 trailing that.
3, 4 and 5 time champions (losing, regaining) these days is just as flimsy. Losing against a better guy, who still has your old belt, and then picking up another "low hanging" one from another org happens a lot. Or one org (the WBA for instance) giving former beltholders multiple shots at one of their belts, and then some will finally stick.

If you compare it to the old days, you would have to win every championship in every weightclass to become an 8 weight champion. Which is practically impossible.

Well you can't use that as an argument because he would have been seen as the fav no matter who he faced because he's damn legendary.

But the point of this thread was to dispute the myth that Pacquiao was a true 8 division champion, he's not even close to that. He was also never the true lineal/best of the division when he was in any of those weight classes.

Corrales is a much better win than any of Pacquiao's wins!!! At that time ofc.

And let's not forget Floyd wiped Pacquiao out, near shutout.

Pacquiao is at MOST a 4 division world champion, and that's a fact. And even in those 4 divisions, he was never the dominating force, never. Never TRULY lineal either.
