Lewis was actually going to fight Bowe, around 1994 or something like that. But the McCall loss, threw the spanner in the works. Messed everything up. Bowe did duck him the first time, but it was planned to make more fights with Holyfield. More money.

Lewis might have been past prume but Vitali also only had two weeks to prepare for Lewis, I think a trilogy would be fun for fans

My belief is that many fighters could get a good night and land a nice punch and beat Lewis. But I don't think anyone would be favored to beat him 2 out of 3.

I think he might be the best heavyweight of all time H2H still. This is strange, as usually the fighters from yesteryear don't look as good because techniques get better. But I think due to a number of factors such as a lot of the largest men going to other sports like NBA and NFL, Lewis will remain one of the best H2H fighters for quite some time.

In reality that's not the case at all.

Lewis had a long and illustrious career and in his twilight fight came in overweight and had already cited motivational issues several fights before this. He didn't fight Chris Byrd who was actually put into mandatory position because he said he couldn't get up for the fight and would rather retire. Lewis had nothing left to prove.

It was Lewis last fight because he was more or less done with his career. He got more than he bargained for with Vitali but still managed to pull out the win in his last ever fight.

If this was a prime motivated Lewis who was younger and not come in at his heaviest ever weight, a Lewis with the bit between the teeth then I think it would be a pretty one-sided affair.

Lewis had multiple ways with which to win a fight, but uncharacteristically lacked the stamina in the Vitali fight no doubt due to age, being heavy, motivational issues and underestimating Vitali.

He came in at his heaviest ever weight, how is that spin?

Vitali looked decent vs Lewis because it was a case of a guy trying to make a name for himself vs a guy in the twilight of his career who had already cited motivational issues preceding fights leading up to Vitali.

This isn't true, both fighters had 2 weeks to prepare for each other.

Not the best H2H, b/c I believe Vitali was his kryptonite.

However, in the grand scheme.....Lewis faced and beat more A/B level HWs than any other HW in modern history and IMO.........there is no GOAT, no TBE, no p4p #1 except Lennox Lewis.

And while fighters like Eroided Holyfield were able to take him the distance, without the roids, Evan would have been a 210lb fighter and would possibly be KTFO by the likes of Herbie Hide FFS.

Fact is, the BBBoC has had stringent testing on their fighters for decades, and while Im a proud American, it sickens me that our sporting culture as a WHOLE from the late 80s-present is chock full of ANABOLIC STEROID USERS who hide behind non-CIR testing entities like USADA, NYSAC, NSAC some of which allow 6:1 levels of testosterone:epitestosterone, nearly 6X and a minimum of 4:1/4X the amount of a 22y/o male before they even consider sending the sample out for CIR testing.
Exemptions are given out with the passing of a few bucks, and superstars samples have shown over the USADA levels of 5:1 and been tossed in the bin b/c the star power of the athlete that likes to call out MMA fighters. 3X as a fact.

While I was never a Lewis fan during his career, I have studied the BBBoCs testing history for his big fights, and come to the conclusion, that he very well may have been the ONLY clean HW of the big 4, LL, EH, MT, GF.

Found out a yr ago, that George had exemptions, and his opponents signed NDAs.

Just like BHOP since before Pavlik. Pascal called him out on the NDA and was thrown another 300K.

Pavlik broke his NDA in a drunken stupor and cost him 200K in damages.

And there is a reason why Lewis decided to wait until after the Kirk Johnson dismantling to retire :) And it wasn't because he didn't hear pretty much ALL the boxing fans (Except his fans ;)) screaming for a rematch. Lewis went out like a chicken **** and didn't attempt to finish the unfinished business with him and Vitali. Didn't pass the torch like a man.

Exactly! Thank you! Emanuel Strward himself said Lewis was in shape for that fight! They wanted the extra weight because of Vitali's size AND strength. Lewis was ****ing 37 years old... AND??! Wlad is 41! Vitali fought until 41!

Lewis and his fanboys can eat **** with their excuses. True fans of the sport know what's up. ;)

This is one of the dumbest arguments I've seen on this site in over 10 years. So because Wlad and Vitali fought until their 40's that means Lewis should have right?

Let's go one step further, all fighters should be winning titles in their 40's because Bernard Hopkins did so!

It was a prime Wladimir in there with Joshua right?....

    Truly atrocious logic.

But Lewis wasn't fat, he was 2 or 3 lbs heavier than he'd ever weighed, that doesn't equate to being "fat".

Plus like I said Vitali was the first true test Lewis had faced prior to Holyfield.

But Lewis was neither old, shot or fat.

I said the logic of that argument is one of the worst I've ever seen. So because one fighter is fighting at 40+ means that another should?

A fighters freshness and ageing is unique to that specific fighter. All fighter don't age the same. I didn't think think one opinion I just thought that this was general knowledge.

And I don't know why you felt the need to attack me otherwise, I don't think I've ever spoken to you before.

IMO Lewis is a level above Vitali, he took Vitali too lightly for their contest and that's why it was a close fight. I would have liked to have seen the rematch but I understand Lewis decision to retire and he almost retired before the Kirk Johnson fight was announced regardless.

I don't want this to sound like I am anti-Vitali or anything because I've always preferred him to Wladimir.
