http://www.espn.com/mma/story/_/id/...rlifted-medical-facility-truck-collides-train Apparently his truck smashed into a moving train, not a fan but hope he makes 100% recovery.
Just woke up to this.... What a terrible tragedy. Suicide attempt? Love Hughes. He was a wrestling based fighter with a lot of heart and would go to war if he had to. Newton and Trigg will definitely agree there.
Definitely a possibility, he just recently was fired from his no show gig with the UFC and a lot of these older retired fighters get depression/anxiety as a result from the head trauma.
Can't see how he would manage to crash his truck into a train... Definitely sounds like a suicide attempt especially after hearing that he was just fired... Who knows what else he was going through. Sad stuff.
I was initially thinking intoxication but suicide attempt seems more likely given him being very recently fired.
You'd have to be extremely hammered then, like black out drunk.... I think most guys even extremely drunk would still have enough sense not to get smashed up by a train while driving their car.
Let's hope he powers through it just like he did Carlos Newton.... Come on Hughes, you're a ****ing warrior! Fun fact: Hughes and BJ Penn are actually great friends. Noticed this in boxing, kickboxing and MMA. These guys earn each others respect through the wars. Peter Aerts and Andy Hug were great friends, despite their in ring rivalry that lasted several fights where they traded brutal defeats... Aerts is on video bawing his eyes out after Hug passed, I'm sure it would be no different with Penn in this scenario. That said... I'm optimistic of Hughes pulling through this... Come on champ!
I was a fan of his and hope he recovers. The guy was a great fighter but really got so much unjustified hate from a influx of fans that are doing their part to ruin MMA.
