A low blow usually results in the recipient having an opportunity to recover, often for a number of minutes, may sometimes result in a points deduction and in repeated and deliberate cases a disqualification.

There were numerous low blows by Ward in the fight against Kovalev that the ref Weeks ignored whilst forcing Kovalev to keep fighting under duress.

In the Kovalev Ward fight, the last punch was actually a clear low blow, which is verified by video evidence.

How can this result not be overturned to a DQ or at a minimum a no contest?

Duva says she'll file a complaint, but no way, nothing will come of it. This wasn't a punch after the bell that wasn't called correctly. A ref's decision to stop a fight simply will never be overturned.

It won't be overtuned because boxing is corrupt. Weeks probably knew the shots were low anyway since Kovalev kept mentioning them, but instead of actually doing anything about it he made Kovalev fight through them. He even admitted to his mistake, but I guarantee nothing will happen.

The ref went on record to say that he made a mistake after reviewing the instant replay. This is unprecedented. Anything can happen.

Can anyone think of a fight like this where blatant low blows were allowed to end the fight with the ref admitting his mistake afterward?

I cant think of any ending like this, thus I think there is a chance that it could be ruled a no contest after Kovalev files his appeal.
At the very least they're going to force Ward to grant Kovalev another rematch or be stripped of his titles.

The sad part is that Ward is the one benifiting financially from the corruption and Kovalev getting the short end of the money stick.

Exactly! How do you not correct what is plain as day on video?

This is boxing however where corruption rules and a blind eye is turned whenever its convenient to those on the take.

How the fcuk can the stoppage still stand when the 3 finishing shots were low blows?!?!?!

So now you can end a fight with a dropkick, headbutt and ear bite and the ref will raise your hand if your opponent has had enough.....

Wow, just watching some of HBO's analysts comments, they must have been in prime form tonight, they're completely oblivious to the fact that low blows had anything to do with the fight tonight, even Paulie Malignaggi who had Ward winning the first fight admitted that the ref did a terrible job and let Ward get away with the low blows.

Where did he do this? The ref certainly incompetent, but are you really quoting a fake Tony Weeks twitter account LOL. Or is there some other source? I swear if people are quoting this twitter account that will be the funniest **** of 2017.

There is no precedent for a KO being overturned to a DQ in the history of the sport. The best you might get, and this is rare as hens teeth, is a no contest. But those are only ever called for positive drug tests. You can change a result from an L to a W if the score cards were read wrong but that's the only way it happens. The best case scenario is the commission orders a rematch without changing the official outcome of the fight. Ryota Murata didn't get his result overturned against N'Dam, he's just getting a rematch.

Duran vs Buchanan? Bowe vs Mathis Jr?

Yep, I think you're right, but the big difference between those fight and this one I that both Buchanan and Mathis were handily losing their fights compared to it appearing Kovalev was winning his.

Btw, the Bowe-Mathis fight was ruled a no-contest which is what should happen when Kovalev files his protest.
