Tony Weeks on Twitter: "Had I saw the shots were low I would not have stopped the fight. My mistake"

in fairness they weren't 3 dubious low blows consecutively. Were they not "beltline-beltline-low blow"? Which was while Kovalev was leaning over obstructing his view? FYI I was highly criticial of Weeks in the RJJ BHop2 . he missed the worst low blow in that fight by BHop and gave Hops 5 minutes for borderline ones. So I definetly understand where you're coming from in regard to Weeks.

Yes that is the issue, he refused to call the low blows. And has just admitted they were low..and he somehow missed them.

The head shots that appeared to hurt Kovalev happened after low blows he was not given time to recover from.

 

Looking through that account, it seems fake

 

I don't think he was on the take, I think he was just scared of upsetting the fans in he building and getting booed out of the place by being unbiased and fair.

The first punch hit the belt line clearly, 3 punches followed, all under the belt. We've only seen a close-up of the final lowblow, there was 2 shots landed just before that shot to his groin area and nobody has seen that footage yet, which is very suspicious.

 

How so? Looks really legitimate to me.

 

Didn't Nevada Athletic Commission approve instant replays to review hits that end fights, including knockouts and low blows or head-butts if they cause the bout to end because of injury? Why wasn't it used?

 

I'm referring to the referee giving a fighter a "10 count" as opposed to stopping the fight. Meaning Weeks could have waited another moment until Kov was held up by the ropes or until there was an actual knockdown. I wasn't referring to a "standing 10 count" as a household boxing term, but rather that I'd rather he had given Kovalev a 10 count as opposed to stopping the fight right there or giving Kov 5 minutes.

 

It goes all the way back to Pac vs Vargas. They are pretty dedicated if fake.

Standing 8 counts are not allowed in IBF/WBC/etc or American fights.

Kovalev was not on the ground/ropes or his knee, so no count was possible.

Basically my stance is that I was OK with the stoppage because those punches must have been hard to see from his vantage point with Kov leaning over and what not.
