Kovalev won again

I always had utmost respect for Ward's boxing abilities and felt like I could learn something from him. Not in this fight though as this "great slick boxer" Ward was nowhere. I thought he was going to try to steal the jab from Kovalev but he didn't do **** really, at least not on the level you're expect from this supposedly "#1 P4P" boxer. All I could "learn" from him today was to clinch like an idiot and fight dirty, something that would get any boxer disqualified unless he would have special protection from the ref.

I guess those were the "adjustments" he was boasting about, just making the fight as dirty as possible and having the ref letting him get away with it. A very bad night for boxing. It didn't even look like a boxing match at times to be honest.

If Ward would have put a total boxing clinic with jabs and counters I would be the first to applaud, but this just isn't it. I think Ward's legacy will actually get a hit from these two Kovalev fights when all will be said and done. Very undeserving wins which also exposed his dirty techniques to the public.

 

Also LOL at idiots calling Kovalev a "bully". Kovalev has a very clean style of boxing. He has power but he's mainly a boxer-puncher and very technical. He has a style that matches up beautifully with people who are willing to engage with him from range. Now I don't expect Ward to do that but I'm just pointing out that there is a dimension to Kovalev's boxing that is very aesthetic and pleasing to eye. Ward doesn't really have that, you can match him up with anybody and he would still make the fight dirty. Yet Ward is somehow the slick technical boxer here?

Outside of the ring Kovalev had utmost respect for Ward up until Ward started with his antics.

I think people really don't understand the cultural differences here and just take everything Kovalev says literally when he's clearly a funny guy who jokes most of the time. Like when he said that he is going to shoot at Ward because of his biathlon coach, I bet people here took that literally and think that he wants to kill Ward or something.

 

Kovalev has the old school mentality and took the fight without even being paid normally for it. He just wanted to fight even with all the advantages that Ward had because he knew he wouldn't get the fight otherwise. He's like one of 10 or so guys who aren't in it just for money. A typical modern boxer would just take the controversial loss (where most people think he won) and moved on but Kovalev went through hell to get this match made with Ward's people. And what does he get from boxing fans? No credit, nothing... And another controversial fight.

I wish that European fighters in the future will just fight at home and steal all the belts and say **** you to Vegas. The crowds in Vegas suck anyway, there is no passion. In Britain in Russia fans are always cheering.

 

No it's not anymore. Joshua vs Klitschko in London was the biggest fight in the modern era.

Historically a lot of great fights took place outside of Vegas. Rumble in the jungle, thrilla in Manilla etc.

Vegas is a nuisance that kills boxing. No passion and a totally corrupt environment that tries to sell itself as "neutral". I would even prefer Arab countries or Lagos to that.

 

People present EE fighters as "bullies" but EE fighters are generally the cleanest fighters in boxing. Maybe not Klitschko but who wouldn't fight that way with his physical advantages? Imagine Ward having Klitschko's physique and what kind of dirty tricks he would be doing to other boxers.
