A few marginal shots but none of them outrageous - street fight 2, remember - and the ref was kinda quick to intervene but Kovalev was badly out of shape for this fight - again - and running on fumes by the 8th. He was gonna be stopped by Mr Feather Fist, either later that round or in the 9th, maybe 10th. And look at his face at the end, there wasn't an ounce of fight left in him, and very few signs of complaint. He looked happy it was all over and this, more than anything, tells us what we need to know.

He lost... deal with it and don't trade out any semblance of self-respect you have left constructing painfully inadequate attempts to observe a 'robbery'. Jeez, it actually makes me cringe to read some of the squirming going on here from grown men. I was gutted when my man Brook was beaten by Spence. But guess what? He lost, I dealt with it despite plenty of ammo to build a hard luck story around the injury and weight. But those would have just been excuses and it's only excuses I observe here.

I'll give you 10 out of 10 for innovation though... a stoppage robbery. They're as rare as hen's teeth....

Another black eye for the sport, it's despicable. The only sport in America where a championship can not only be won by the loser, but can be won by using illegal tactics. You don't see the Super Bowl, the World Series or even the Stanley Cup won on fouls or penalties. Yet not only is it acceptable in boxing but the people that are suppose to keep law and order for these fights turn a blind eye like the refs, judges & commissions. And fans of the "winning" fighter either choose to ignore these fouls & applaud a win like this, or acknowledge the fouls but blow them off like they had no bearing on the outcome. Hopefully no one else will fight Andre Ward because it is impossible to get a fair shake against this guy. It makes no sense, he can't sell tickets in Vegas. He can't even sell out when he fights at home in Oakland, he doesn't sell ppv's and he's not a star, yet he still gets all this favorable treatment from judges, blind refs and athletic commissions. Hopefully he retires, he gives the sport of boxing, especially boxing in America a bad name.

 

For the Schmeling era this was correct but US HW boxing was dead from 2007 until Wilder won a belt in 2015.
Now there is Wilder but the captial of HW boxing is still europe ( more UK than germany now) even Luis Ortiz came over to fight here.

SMW is also bigger in europe same with Crusierweight.

 

The finishing shot was indeed a low blow, but many of the other punches before that were body shots. Kov wanted to hunch down as he was exhausted and hurt anyway, the referee shoudn't have stopped it - but Kov was DONE, he looked exhausted and a beaten fighter. Ward would have stopped him anyway.
Alot of sore losers on this forum, the fact is Ward won, his tactics at times are questionable - but he finds a way to win every time, and he was clearly the better fighter this time out especially on the inside.
Kov showed alot of mental weakness, the bully was being bullied and he couldn't handle it.
