It's clear right now that Kovalev is one of those very talented fighters who for whatever reason just has no gas tank. But we've seen this before though. Cotto, Judah, even DLH to a lesser degree just never seemed to have a full tank. Of course if you sit on your ass and don't train and eat properly you will tire faster. A lot of these guys though are pure professionals and still have these problems. Or you could look at Carlos Monzon who was known as a smoker and partier. His stamina was magnificent. It's got to be largely genetic. Some guys just can't maintain a good work rate for very long.
yes there are specific genes that are responsible for stamina and for recovery after breaks. it has to do with a few genes within the muscle fibers, some people have it activated and some dont.
I guess laziness can be genetic. No excuse at that level, put in the work, lay off the smack talk, lay off the vodka and put in the hours. Super human stamina might be genetic but anyone can run a marathon if they put in the training and follow a good diet. Kovalev is an amateur at energy conservation as well as appearing to be an amateur in preparation. Combine that with a guy like Ward who's body attack is methodical and reliable whilst also not allowing Kovalev to be the bully.
I think fighters with a hard punch suffers more so then others. It's really taxing to throw power shots in volume and especially if you miss a few.
It might have to do with production of lactic acid in the muscles during strenuous exercise, some people's bodies are genetically better at flushing lactic acid out of their system than others like this guy for instance: This content is protected
Throwing hard punches were never a problem for Hagler, Monzon, Pacquiao, Pryor, Froch, etc. All known for iron lungs. But yea of course if you are out there bombing away and you don't have a great tank you will gas out.
Mate he was a unified world champion, you're not lazy if you get yourself to this point from where Sergi started. On the contrary. He might have sub-par training regime since he's a puncher and maybe hasn't had to train as hard or for as long since he always knocks people out, I'm just speculating. But to call Sergei lazy is just bs.
I think having the ability to have great stamina is definitely genetic. I feel Ward has that Michael Phelps like stamina. Sergei's stamina isn't bad but when you compare it to Ward its not.
