Just rewatched the fight and here is a quick unbias analysis of what I saw happen. After rd 5 it was just a matter of time.

Im a fan of both fighters and wanted the best man to get the W regardless of anything else.

Rd-1 Ward scored more points. Close rd
Rd-2 Kovalev (uncharacteristically reacts to a borderline low blow)
    Rd-3 Kovalev Extremely close round
Rd-4 Kovalev scored more points. Close rd
Rd-5 Ward Seems to have gotten Kovalev's timing down in this rd
Rd-6 Ward landing the much better punches and has considerably more snap on his punches than Kovalev at this point
Rd-7 Ward countering very well, leading very well, hurting Kovalev. Seems like the beginning of the end for the Krusher.
Rd-8 Ward put a beating on Kovalev this round. Kovalev was spent, had nothing on his punches and stopped fighting.

    5 rds Ward
    3 rds Kovalev

Ward was stronger and superior and beat Kovalev very fair.
There were shots from Ward that were borderline but nothing crazy and there were blatant rabbit punching from Kovalev and at time Ward retaliated with his own.

All in all, The Best Man won. Congrats to Ward!!

5-2 before the stoppage for Ward. It really wasn't a hard fight to score. Most people here just don't know **** about boxing. They really don't.

    I prefer kovalev's style actually.

If you give Kovalev all the close rounds like rds 1-5 I suppose can squeeze out an argument why he could be leading on the cards.

There is no denying that the momentum of the fight shifted almost completely to Ward's favor somewhere in Rd 5.

I'm a fan of both fighters.

Live I had it 4-3 Ward. Rewatching now I see I was just wrong to give Kovalev the 6th. First four close, Kovalev I thought won the 2nd and 3rd on punches landed. I gave Ward the 4th, thought he did the more effective punching. 5th to 7th, you said it, it was Andre. 5-2 Ward for me. I cannot believe how after Ward hurt Kovalev to the head Kovalev just retreated, shied away from returning fire completely, bent over when a body shot came. It didn't look like surviving, it looked like quitting.

Really? you can land less than 10 punches a round, retreat against your opponent, and he lands more and you win the round?

That's what bullies do they retreat at the first sign of adversity. Kovalev showed the world that he was a bully.

Did not bother keeping score after that. I thought a Ward win was just a matter of time.

Ward 6-1. It's funny that when a fight has close rounds everybody is like "Oh anything wider than 1-2 rounds isn't acceptable". What a load of nonsense, you're under no obligation to share rounds evenly if a fight is close. If one guy is continuously doing what you perceive to be just that little bit extra in an individual round then you score the round for that guy. You can have a close fight that is 12-0 to one guy.
Most people DKSAB or how to score a contest.
