What GGG/Jacobs & Ward/Kovalev taught us about GGG/Ward

Exactly! If you're going life and death with a guy like Jacobs you're not beating Ward period. Ward would really abuse him on the inside and push him around and beat him up. GGG is also slow and has even shorter arms than Ward he would kill him on the outside with his jab. Ward is a horrible styles match up for GGG. At least Kovalev could keep Ward honest with his length and he was the bigger and stronger man with GGG he wouldn't have those issues.

The results don't matter... Golovkin could have KO'd Jacobs in 1-2 rounds and Kovalev could have mirrored that against Ward, would still heavily favor Ward to beat Golovkin.

Duh but GTFO with using Ward's actual impressive victory to big up Golovkin. There was no actual additional analysis offered here from the additional data point of last night. Ward gets a stoppage win and the "analysis" remains Golovkin wins because Ward doesn't punch hard enough.

 

Who gives a **** what boone says. Power is overrated skills aren't remember that. Pirog stopped Jacobs and Mora hurt Jacobs more than GGG did.

 

Kovalev had stamina/energy issues against Chilemba. I think he said so himself when discussing his overtraining for Ward 1.

Kovalev has been knocked down before in his career. Don't think that those shots (Boone, Caparello, others?) were to the body, but his vulnerability has been shown previously.

Expecting GGG to have punch weakness, to anyone, is like expecting Vitali Klitschko to have chin issues. It's just not there.

 

Why do we listen to Boone on this potential fight?

- He fought Kovalev and knocked Kovalev down in one of their fights
- He fought Ward and and knocked Ward down in their fight
- He sparred GGG


Not sure there is anyone better to ask about GGG/Ward/Kovalev than Darnell Boone.

You cited body vulnerability specifically and have not brought up anything to demonstrate it. Expecting Kovalev to have punch weakness to the body prior to his first fight with Ward would've been like expecting Klitschko to have chin issues.

 

There is no vulnerability, of any kind, in GGG's resume. That is the difference between him and Kovalev.

 

There was no body vulnerability of any kind for Kovalev until Ward demonstrated such a weakness. If all you want to do is keep insisting that Golovkin has no weaknesses whatsoever than that's hardly any kind of analysis at all.

 

Oh yes, I found this as well. There did seem to be a Kovalev vulnerability to body shots earlier in his career.

So yes, the concept that Kovalev may be a bit weak to the body was already out there, courtesy of GGG himself.

 

If we're treating sparring stories as relevant, then Golovkin himself has demonstrated such vulnerability to the body against Tyrell Hendrix.
