If it'll help him win Ward will do anything even if it means fighting dirty. But, almost all top fighters would do the same. It's up to the opponent to play dirty back. When Floyd tried to use his elbows and hold his head down Maidana tackled Floyd. When Mares kept low blowing Agbeko the ref ignored them. Agbeko Had all fight to fire back and check Mares, but didn't. Mares is a no good cheat, but If a fighter can get away with fouling and low blowing there going to do it every time.

No worse than Duran , Hagler , Holyfiled , Tyson , Mayweather , Greb etc.

Ward haters are usually very uneducated casual mickey mouse fans of the sport so they have no historical perspective

 

He fights in a style that is the only possible style he could succeed with given his limitations.

So, this is the only way he can fight. I don't blame him for fighting like this, but it would be better if he could keep it cleaner.

When every one of your big wins vs good opponents is marred with controversy and accusations of headbutting, elbowing, constant grappling etc. Yeah, you gotta accept that you are a dirty fighter.

Crazy thing is the guy is so talented that I think he could win those kind of fights without resorting to illegal tactics. And sadly I think it taints his record, by leaving doubt of whether or not he could win fairly.

Obviously Ward is not the only dirty one in boxing, current or historically. Why refereres let it pass, unquestioned and unpenalized. How boxing fans can praise the man for being dirty as its some kind of virtue, thats beyond my understanding....

 

The way he has the moves down it is like he practices them. Charging in with the head a lot too. But you know, if a guy hits you low, hit him low back twice. If he butts you butt him back. Kovalev's reactions were really disapointing

 

Yes Ward is a dirty fighter and he uses every trick there is and I can respect that. Win to whatever cost regardless of who you are facing. IT's the refs job to make the fighters follow the rules.

I acually think it's alot more intresting then when someone bends the rules abit and does whatever it takes to the win. It's the hurt buisness and these things happen. It's always the refs job to keep a fighter in line.

 

I don't think Hagler was all that bad. Some thought he used his head too much, but I don't think he was in the same category as the others. Hamsho's dirty tactics against Hagler in the rematch were hilariously blatant. Just so obvious.

Boxing history is filled with guys bending or straight up breaking the rules. Unfortunately it's just part of the sport. I won't be overly harsh on guys bending the rules (unless it's something outrageous like Norwood-Gainer, Pedroza-LaPorte), but I'm not going to praise them either. I don't like it when they fight dirty, especially rabbit-punches because they are so dangerous, but it's just one of those things you see in sports.

The refs need to enforce the rules and be stricter about dirty fighting.

Vito was known to have paper skin so Hagler deliberately used to dome to rip his face open like a can of chopped tomatoes. Wasn't all that bad? Lol he gave that man a savage head butt.
I love Holyfield but he was an absolute disgrace in both Tyson fights. The you have Wlad who was a rotten sportsman yet is loved by Ward haters. Leaning down on guys spinal cords with over 200 pound of mass is as bad as Margo loading his mitts.
