listen to roy explain the beltline and low blows. kovalev had his belt above his bellybutton anything directly below the belt would be his bellybutton and lower abdomen, not a low blow. weeks explained to kovalev from the beginning that anything directly below the belt would not be a low blow. andre was hurting kovalev bad to the body it was part of his game plan and it worked.

Me and a few others have been saying this all day. People need to learn the sport and stop being cheerleaders . Cheerlead for the sport not your man crush.

Weeks never apologized for not calling low blows. He apologized if he didn't see low blows. Weeks knew where Kovalev waist was located.

I dont need anyone to explain to me that when wards punch landed square on the B of kovalevs sponsors name on the front of his shorts, that it was acceptable and borderline because kovas trunks are high (as are most fighters)

The punch that made the ref call it off was a blatant low blow... period. Literally all you have to do is look at the replay

No other boxer in the history of the sport slumps over like a dead man from getting hit low. He was finished from the beating he took prior to that.

The cup hits the sensitive bladder and pelvis region and it hurts like like a kick to the knee. It doesn't slump you over like an old man taking his last breath

None of that changes the *fact * that the ref called off the fight from kovas reaction to a blatant foul.

The right call was to call break and warn ward... again.

The best bad call would have been to give kova a standing 8 count.

But he waved off the fight from a reaction caused by a low blow.

Thats not an opinion, its observational fact.

Pretty sure there is no standing 8 count in world title fights im not sure the ref had any other choice, maybe Kovalev needs to learn to take a knee in that situation

Definitely it was part of Ward's game plan to go to the body a lot. That is true.

it was not blatantly low, it appeared blatantly low because kovalev was begging for a way out of the onslaught, he was bent over in half hoping the ref would break them up. ward chopped kovalev down with those body shots, kovalev was getting hurt from those shots all night he even turned his back on ward a few times. he was mentally and physically beaten.

    Really?

Kovalev's reaction is pretty consistent with any fighter in history that was hit low.

Fair enough if theres no standing 8 count... stupid rule but if its a rule then so be it.

Taking a knee also gives a ref looking to call a fight the excuse they need to wave it off. Many fighters have been 'stopped' because they were taking a knee.

Point is... ref should have called the low blow.

That being said its easy to say that with the benefit of slowmo replay. Im sure its s tough call in the moment.

Ill assume you haven't rewatched the replay if your saying it wasn't blatantly low. It hit him right in his sponsors logo on the front of his trunks  the logo obviously being well below the belt.

Everyone knows CoWard is the dirtiest fighter in the game. Even if the shots did appear borderline the ref should've given Kov the benefit of doubt and they shouldn't have shot down the request to have it checked on instant reply given CoWard's reputation for being dirty. Fix was in.

You don't think Weeks didn't know in advance he had the reputation of being a very dirty fighter? GTFOA. Of course he did. They screwed Kov x 2. Fact. No way would he have waved that off if CoWard was in that position. Kov would've been deducted a point at the very least and CoWard would've been given a 5 minute break.

Oh but he did. Are you going to split hairs on the subtle differences between two men bent over, screaming, and holding their nuts? Is this what it has come to?
