He was wrong to stop the fight on an illegal blow without penalizing Ward. The decision will not be respected and will forever taint Ward's win and mire it in controversy. Given how controversial the first fight already was, Ward and RocNations reputation took a serious hit in these fights.

Say you are gambler, are you going to put big money on a Ward fight now? If you are another promoter, are you going to put your guy in a position to get screwed over like this? Remember when the first fight was announced we were all counting on it to fix boxing.

 

You obviously watched a different fight to me. Kovalev outworked and outboxed Ward for the majority of the fight, with Ward mostly in full retreat mode because he didn't have the firepower to stand in the pocket with Kovalev. He low blowed him out of desperation / frustration, and it's clear the referee wsn't going to stop it.

 

I'm OK with Golota / Bowe being reviewed and Golota getting 2 TKO wins over Bowe. The dude was done anyway.

 

It could have been called low. Ref could have taken a point from Ward and given Kov up to 5 min to recover. But I think most people would agree that Ward probably would have stopped him anyway.

You keep calling it an illegal blow when that has yet to be determined. If you are convinced that it was an illegal punch then everything you say is predicated on that belief. If you demanded that the last three blows be scrutinized by the proper people and a decision made pro or con, I can live with that. However, just because you say it's a low blow doesn't mean that it's a low blow.

 

Two points:

1. No man that risks his life in the ring is a coward.
2. Kovalev didn't turn his back to avoid a fight. In a display of excellent ring awareness, Ward spun behind behind him.

I will tell you what I see. Andre Ward's right leg pivots behind Kovalev, rotating his body counter clockwise around Kov's torso, leaving his left foot planted in front of Kovalev's left foot. With his back to Ward, Kovalev attempts to rotate but his foot is trapped by Ward's so he steps away to reset.

That is dry facts of the footage. If you have no technical knowledge of the sport and don't watch fighter's feet that is your problem. Indulge in your masculinity psychic readings at your own discretion. I'm a boxing fan that does not deal in the metaphysical.
