It depends. If he wins in a close fight the rematch is far too lucrative to pass up.

He and Sanchez sure contradict themselves a lot. First it was unification is a priority, then Canelo fight is a priority, then those talks (I realize Abel wasn't that serious) about moving up to 168 soon after Canelo fight and now this :D

If he wins wide, he can fight the winner of Saunders-Lemieux and then retire

Clever comment, regardless of what you think is going to happen let's just say Golovkin wins, after all he is the odds on favourite (4/7) so it's not exactly out of the question.

Anyway, he says this now, not after the fight, so Golovkin wins and says "I'm done now, I'm retiring" he can't really get slaughtered and accused of ducking a rematch because he can always say I said it before the fight but Golden Boy will desperately want Canelo to get a shot at revenge, assuming it wasn't a massacre and set the record straight so they will have to pay him ridiculously well to stop him retiring and get another shot at him.

Whatever rematch clause they have inserted will not mean anything if Golovkin retires so if they want a rematch they will have to pay Golovkin well for it.

The same "bumland" Canelo is in?

Even I think it's very harsh to call Canelo a "bum"

So if Canelo wins he is King Of Bumland? Oh right, I will remind you of these quotes if Canelo does cause the upset and you're on here giving it large.

I called it in another post Golovkin changes his mind alot. I don't think anyone on this board can fathom the amout of money he is going to get from this fight that he is surely going to lose. I'm talking about this fight being staged by GBP ,K2, and HBO. Canelo is the young, good looking sellable fighter but many of you keep thinking that GGG is a superstar, here's the reality, he is not.

He put out 2 lackluster PPV fights at the height of his popularity and nobody bought them in record numbers. Canelo just sold a million or close to it of a glorified sparring match with Chavez, who immediately smoked his money up like Rick James in 1985. Golovkin is telling you guys right now that it's over and you better believe him.

Now let's appreciate the last honest guy left in the biz, anyone else would be selling you pipe dreams of KO's and then falling out like a domestic violence victim when a guy from Oakland cracks their jaw.

Not that surprising, imo. I dont really think he will retire after this particular fight, but I think hes close. I could be totally wrong and I have no 'evidence' I could present as to why Ive gotten that feeling from him but to me his heart doesnt really seem into boxing as much as hes just a consummate professional who makes his living boxing and will get out at the right time without much love lost in the process.

    Just imo.

He's 35. He knows he's slipping. He's not a defensive fighter. I don't blame him. Get out before you start taking brain damage.

The guy is 35 years old FFS.

I doubt it, I think that GGG will stick around till he is 38. There is more money to be made and you can tell that the dude loves to fight.
