It's not bumland anymore because Canelo is now in it. When Triple G was quoted as wanting to unify "bumland" it was when Canelo was known as a Light Middleweight, a 154-lber, a 154-lb champion, etc.

Not blaming him/them either. If anything, only issue I have is he sounds a bit pessimistic right now. I know he's always been down to earth and humble but all this 50/50 & "yeah, Canelo can win" + retirement talks makes me worry a bit he won't be 100% into beating the crap out of Saul on September :D I want him to believe he still has it.

He loves to fight because he's been kicking the living pis out of over matched B level fighters. But now he's 35 and he's been getting tagged hard his last 3 fights. He's slipping. He's getting peppered by jabs, flush shots and his work rate has been going down.

Maybe he realizes he's no longer going to destroying everything in sight at this point.

First thing's first : Canelo. I don't think you can plan out any fight beyond September 16th, becuase boxing is the theater of the unexpected. David Lemieux could become WBO Champ by then, if Canelo Triple G is a controversial decision, there could be a rematch needed. You just never know what's gonna happen after this fight, but for Triple G to say maybe he'll retire after this fight, well that doesn't sound like somebody who wants to unfiy the division by taking on the BJS / DL winner, which was what Triple G fans have been lauding about Triple G for all this time. If Triple G is already thinking about retirement, then wow, that must have been unexpected for Triple G's fans to hear, then again ever since the Canelo fight has been announced, they've been arguing that Triple G has suddenly become old so they have a built-in excuse to discredit Canelo if Canelo emerges victorious, so given all that talk maybe they won't be surprised to hear that he may retire after this.

Oh right, that's how it works :risas3:

Didn't Canelo hold a world title in "bumland" a while ago, wore the belt and called himself a champion in the division too?

Then moved back down to 154 when he was ordered to fight his mandatory or be stripped.

But it's not bumland now? but but but it is?

I'm getting confused, maybe we should just wait and see what happens but my guess is this.. if Canelo wins then it's amazing, great, superb but if Golovkin wins it's "bumland".

Golovkin sometimes. He doesn't lie about how he feels. Not even to sell a fight. His fans are like,"Golovkin is God!!!" and he will say,"Yeah, I'm not a machine, this is a sport, anyone can win."

I appreciate that kind of honesty sometimes. Other times he needs to lie his ass off and sell them fights.

We are talking a 4 year period....things change.

If you asked me my goals 4 years ago, I'm sure it would contradict what I would tell you today.

You might be right. But if he loses to Canelo I can see some guys like Eubank Jnr coming out of the wood work to fight him.

He did, he won it from Cotto, a future HOF and boxing legend, at a catchweight that Cotto asked for. Then sparked Amir Khan out with a toe in bumland, so that Khan could have a more fair chance at a weight that gave Khan a better chance to win and was more fair to Khan. Yeah Canelo was certainly in bumland for about 6 months. In fact he became the Lineal Champion of bumland, but as you know he never fought at the bumland limit so how can we consider him truly in bumland without fighting at the bumland limit?

When the bumland talking heated up, wasn't that towards the end of 2016 when Canelo was WBO 154-lb champ? Canelo only recently vacated that WBO 154-lb title, up until recently he was a champion in a weight class below bumland, thus not in bumland. Bumland really had to do with most of Triple G's opponents before Jacobs. Aside from David Lemieux which was not a bum, most of Triple G's other opponents were not as skilled as Canelo's opponents at 154, hence the bumland terminology.

Ya I think hes def honest on certain areas... particular on fight outcomes and how he feels before the fight in terms of his fear or precociousness before a fight (couldnt believe he said he was kinda scared before the lemieux fight lol)

But just for me I cant think of him as honest, him and his team have flip flopped too much, double standards too much, ect. Only slack I suppose I could cut there is sometimes I feel his answers arent genuine but rather what hes settling with because his english isnt all that good. But still...

But I do get what you are saying. Hes sometimes pretty open about his mortality, so to speak.

Good for him. I'll miss GGG and its a shame that we didnt get to enjoy him long but man, the guy has had a looong career. 350 amateur fights is no joke. But but floyd fought until he was 38. Yeah well TBE is TBE.

Well, the plans to go up to 168 were relatively recent (few months) but still, fair point. Like I said, I'm not blaming Golovkin for thinking what's best for him. I'm just a tad worried about his mindset before a fight with a young / hungry guy who sure wants to prove a lot by taking out "the most feared" one.

If he beats Alvarez convincingly then why not fight Ward?
