Moore was an intelligent but complex man who seeemed to harbor some resentment against Rocky.

I don't think he got any extra time against Archie. Maybe Moore convinced himself that the ref helped Rocky and that's why he didn't end the fight in the 2nd. Rocky beat Moore down. Plain and simple. Moore fought well but Rocky kept on him and beat him up and knocked him out. Maybe Moore had issues coping with the fact that a guy like Marciano did him in like he did.

Marciano didn't look entirely impressive on film and honestly if watching I'd have picked Walcott, Charles, and Moore himself over Rocky in fights had Marciano not actually beaten them. Part of the Marciano mystique, I guess.

Eitherway, like I said in the other post, Moore seemed to have something against Marciano. I think if Rocky had punched him to the moon, Moore would have claimed it was only because a very strong wind took him out of the arena and it wasn't because of the Marciano punch.

Yes, he did seem to have a lack of respect for him compared to others.

Curtis Stevens will go down in history having said that Golovkin doesn't hit very hard, or something along those lines...

Some jealousy is understandable, Archie had a much more difficult path.

Ridiculous. A bunch of Golovkin's top opponents will go down in history saying that his power is overrated...It is what it is.

    Yes, exactly.
Even some Golovkin opponents call his power overrated.
An important reminder to base a fighter on the depth of information and media, not just one or two quotes by disgruntled opponents.

Having heard so much about it maybe they over estimated what it would feel like to get hit by GGG.

Marciano got the start of a standing count when Moore dropped him, that was not operational in title fights at the time. When the referee realised his mistake he dropped Marciano's hands and Rocky moved to the ropes because he also thought he was getting a standing count. he mentioned this later to Peter Wilson who wrote in the UK's Daily Mirror .Marciano said he was dazed by Moore's punch, more hurt than by Walcott's kd blow.

I agree the illegal count for Marciano did not alter the result imo.

In a taped interview at his home in1970. Moore said this."I never take any credit from Rocky, because I think Rocky was one of the greatest fighters that ever lived, and one of the nicest fellows that ever lived".Sounds pretty fulsome to me.

    QUOTE="reznick, post: 18629982, member: 54206"]Brand new interview.
In my opinion he was too on point.

Helped train both Klitschkos, and Holyfield, and said "Marciano, the hardest puncher I've ever seen."[/QUOTE]
Just watched this . He says because Marciano was short he beats the Klits because they couldnt punch down and gives Chris Byrd as an example because he beat Vitali. He forgets ,or doesn't remember that Vitali was winning rather easily and retired with an injury. He also forgets, or doesn't remember that Wlad beat Byrd.He goes on to say," don't believe what they tell you I was there!" Turner was 16 years old when Marciano retired, he is full of it!
He sounds like he is drunk here.

Is it my imagination, or does Turner state (at around the 1:49 mark) that Marciano would spend '8 months in a training camp'?

Yes he does ,and I believe he did spend up to 6 months,I think there is some hyperbole in Turners words.

I knew it was a matter of time before they went at Turners throat.

He trained some of the best world champions in the last few decades, his credibility is solifided.

This little wave of character attack from the Gallicacolytes isn't very effective. Your agenda is so strong that you'd cast a world class trainer aside as a drunk because his testimony is an inconvenience to you. Sillyness
