I thought Kova defo won the first fight, but it's irrelevant when an immediate decision takes place

I was openly rooting for Kov in the rematch and he was up on the scorecards...and a few of the shots were low..

But. Ward defo hurt him upstairs. His body language was that of a fighter who didn't want to be there. And Ward was beginning to take control of the fight. And went for the stoppage when he had him hurt.

Not his biggest fan but out of all the active fighters he's clearly the best p4p. Can't see anyone in and around his weight class that he doesn't beat.

Nobody ever denied that Kovalev was hurt and was most likely getting stopped very soon.

We are against stopping the fight on a blatant low blow.

You think he beats a Gvozdyk or Bivol easily? I know neither of these guys especially Bivol have beat anyone, but they pass my eye test with flying colors.

There must be something I'm missing here if I'm the only one thinking it's pretty clear Ward beats them both.

Probably not with absolute ease anymore. At 34 and with two tough legacy fights behind him now he's probably passed it.

Now 3 years ago Kovalev crushes everybody hard except for Ward who is a toss up fight.

Gvozdyk, Bivol, seem like a new kind of breed of EE fighters. I do think all EE fighters have trouble with inside fighting, but if you watch a guy like Kov, his bread and butter is the jab and straight. Sure he does throw the left hook, but really what other punches does he really use. He doesn't use uppercuts that much. Gvozdyk/Bivol they seem like pretty much complete fighters though I'm pretty sure their inside game is weak. They might not have Kov's power but they're also far faster imo, and I bet their defensive reflexes are better. Kov has good defense forsure, but I think these 2 are a new breed, not on Lomachenkos level, but a similar type. Now I could be completely wrong about Bivol, I'm far more sold on Gvozdyk.

They're good, but I still say a prime Kova destroys them. Kovalev used to throw the left hook, but he largely put it away against Ward and Chilemba. Because those two are very good, excellent counter punchers. And in the case of Ward he's a purely great counter puncher. The long range jab kept him out of range and prevented him from opening himself up for hard counters.

It actually worked because most people felt he actually beat Ward.

We aren't in Weeks' shoes, it's easy to make a decision from the comfort of your couch. Weeks' decision was a "bang bang" play, happens so quickly.

When in doubt, standing 8 count.

I agree. Can't criticize the man though, they have to make split second decisions in front of thousands of live people.

Ive seen the ending to that fight about a thousand times now in all the videos that prove Ward threw low blows and the videos that prove Ward did actually through legit body shots. Both use the same video. But Kovalev made a meal of those shots, which were without a doubt low but didnt exactly land on the spuds, so he could get a minute to recover from that head shot which clearly had him hurt. Im sure he wasnt expecting to be waved off for sitting on the ropes he expected up to 5 mins and Ward atleast get a telling off. But then he didnt really protest when it was waved off.

That shot must of done a fair bit of damage.

Would you like to be in a match in which the guy is targeting your nuts with the ref's approval?

Standing 8 counts aren't a thing in Vegas. They aren't a thing in most states or countries.

Why do people on a boxing site keep saying they are.. you can't give a standing 8 count to someone.

Also, he sat on the ropes AFTER the fight was stopped. So you can't even give a count that the ropes held him up.

People on here just making up rules to try to save Kov this loss.
