Just re-watched the GGG/Jacobs fight, not a robbery.

Only watched it once, had it 115-112 Gennady or 114-113 Genady, but felt there was a very strong case for 114-113 Jacobs.
This leads me to believe Jacobs was well within his right to believe he won that fight.
Getting with Abel Sanchez was a huge mistake as far as I'm concerned. Gennady became better at breaking people down and knocking them out, but that doesn't make you a better boxer.

Yeah, you can see glimpses of his boxing ability still but his style is less 'boxing' than is used to be pre-Sanchez. He used to be a pretty good counter puncher. But all the same, it's hard to argue with Abel's methods at this stage given the success he's had.

I actually think he didn't listen enough to Sanchez. Sanchez told him to go to the body. But he was mostly head hunting the whole night. The jab was landing, but the rest was inconsistent. He'd especially go headhunting when Jacobs went southpaw. Jacobs expected the right hand after the 4th, and GGG was way too predictable. He needed to play the mix up game better.

Interesting you say that, Sanchez mentioned after the Brook fight that he told GGG to box instead of trying to brawl which until about the 4th he didn't really try to do. I'd hope two less than stellar performances make him more receptive to his trainer's advice.

Yeah at the end of the day hindsight is 20/20 though. GGG knocked Jacobs down with a right hand in the 4th when Jacobs went southpaw, and if GGG went to the body more and the fight was still razor close, I'd probably say GGG should have went for the straight right more when Jacobs when southpaw.

GGG/Canelo is such an intriguing fight. Canelo does not have Jacobs footwork, reach, size advantage(I actually think Canelo is a small MW despite his weight, the guy is short, his reach isn't that long and his build isn't as big as people make it out to be). But he does have faster combinations, possibly better head movement and defense, I'm not sure about the power though. I think I still slightly favor GGG. 60/40.

I thought Jacobs clearly won when i watched it live. On the second watch i had Golovkin edging it so thats how i view the result in retrospect.
Jacobs fought a nice tactical fight , switched from southpaw to orthodox , went to the body well and used good movement around the ring.
It was a close fight and not a clear win for GGG by any stretch.

I had it fairly comfortably for Golovkin.

Jacobs looked busier and flashier but Gennady was picking off or slipping a LOT of his combos. I thought GGG was lean and efficient and using basic boxing to outscore Jacobs. His jab was just top shelf and he used it as a can opener to crack Jacobs' defence and land powershots. In fact, if you look at Compubox, GGG threw more and landed more. His footwork enabled him to largely negate Jacobs' creative movement.

That said, Jacobs impressed the hell out of me for lasting the distance and looking dangerous all the while. He took a constant pounding from GGG and wasn't fazed; so much for Danny's supposed glass jaw. Jacobs also did (imo) his best work to the body, slipping some nasty shots under the elbows which were much more telling than his bursts of head hunting which was largely ineffective. He has speed, size and mobility and hits damn hard.

I think Danny Jacobs is firmly the #2 in the division, that he'd wipe the floor with Canelo and that he is the only guy with an actual shot at beating Golovkin at 160. It would be interesting to see if his performance was a one-off or whether he can maintain this level.

I want to see more of him.

    Round 1: 10-9 Golovkin
    Round 2: 10-9 Jacobs
    Round 3: 10-9 Jacobs
    Round 4: 10-8 Golovkin + knockdown
    Round 5: 10-9 Golovkin
    Round 6: 10-9 Jacobs
    Round 7: 10-9 Jacobs
    Round 8: 10-9 Jacobs
    Round 9: 10-9 Golovkin
    Round 10: 10-9 Jacobs
    Round 11: 10-9 Jacobs
    Round 12: 10-9 Jacobs

That was my card from the RBR that night, I thought Jacobs clearly won.

Most of the cards I see give GGG the 12th round, I thought that was pretty easy to score for Jacobs although I haven't seen the fight for a while so I will need to rewatch.

I still think GGG beats Canelo because he doesn't have the footwork or movement that Jacobs used so well to frustrate GGG. Canelo's tenancy to lean on the ropes isn't going to do him any favours either. I expect Canelo to look good for a lot of the fight as he will be able to land combos fairly easily.

We may end up with a controversial decision but I think there will be only 1-2 points in it in reality.

    GGG Jacobs proved two things:
    1- GGG has good defense
2- Jacobs was better than people thought

I had it 115-122 GGG. I definitely think Jacob fought well and didn't let himself be bullied by Golovkin, and like you said, he fought a nice tactical fight and had a lot of heart. On the other hand, Golovkin did enough to win but it really wasn't the performance we were expecting (because yeah everyone believed Jacobs would get KTFO). He didn't go to the body enough which he should've done a lot more, he was missing a lot. I'm sure he went head hunting because after the 4th round he believed the KO was coming, but if he had gone to the body the it would've been an easier night for him I think.

I have no doubt in my mind you never saw the fight. Or else you can't read a fight worth a chit.

Nobody takes a constant pounding from Golovkin over 12 rounds. Especially not glass jawed Jacobs. The best shot he got hit with sent him to the canvas.
How did he survive 12 rounds taking a constant pounding? I'll answer , he didn't take any 'constant pounding'.
    Lesson over.

    Typical GGG nuthuggers.

Look, man, there's something we need to address. It's painfully obvious that once you look beyond the jab, the more damaging shots, the higher accuracy, the landing more punches, and the knockdown, GGG was schooled by Jacobs.

    Absolutely schooled.

Still need to watch and re-score. Gave it to Jacobs by a lone round on fight night, but there were definitely close rounds that could have swung the other way.
