A trainer can only do so much. He can't fight for his fighters. His fighters lost not because of Hunter, but because their opponents were better than them. Naseem Hamed got a schooling from Barrera while under Stewart's tutelage. Andy Lee got ktfo by Chavez Jr of all people under Stewart's tutelage. Kermit Cintron got massacred by Antonio Margarito while Stewart was in his corner.
Hunter could teach Kovalev how to cheat, land low blows, headbutt, elbows, hold, wrestle and most important how to buy the judges, referee and boxing commission. However, Hunter did not improve Fonfara or Khan...............

I reckon they had a mini fallout just before Xmas, JDJ offered his services to Team Ward for XXX amount, give up plenty of information regarded the camp in the process and than to make up with Kovalev shortly afterwards due to his demands not being met.
JDJ may be overrated anyway. Don't Turner needs to retire Roach can't help Kova Lomachenko ? Atlas? Jk
