If you are firing punches" anywhere", you aren't aiming them!
He didn't deliberately aim at his opponents arms,Marciano was a shot gun ,Louis& Walcott snipers , that is my point and no amount of circular wording is going to change that for me. All I've done is question the sweeping statement that Marciano was the hardest hitter ever.I don't believe it,anyone who does is perfectly entitled to.

Obviously he was aiming them in the direction of his opponent.

He aimed at his opponent. Wherever.
This shouldn't be hard to grasp. You can see it on film.

Well then my post wasn't addressing that. I was talking about those who say Marciano wasn't carrying the "one-punch" power and was only an "accumulation" puncher.

Louis stated Marciano hit harder than Schmeling. That's a very hard puncher.

Walcott stated Marciano punch for punch hit harder than Joe Louis. That's an incredibly hard puncher.

Even Jack Dempsey surmised that Marciano hit harder than both himself and Joe Louis.

The quote from Jack Dempsey that often appears on the web, and cited as originating in an interview in the 1953 fall edition of Fight magazine:

"What everyone forgets is that Marciano can punch harder with a right hand than any modern-day heavyweight. In his first fight with Walcott, Rocky needed only one blow to win the title. The power in his right scrambled Jersey Joe's brains at Chicago."
"I've scored my share of knockouts along the way, but more often than not my opponents got up after being knocked down and had to be knocked down repeatedly. The same is true of Joe Louis. But Marciano needs only one solid smash and it's all over.
That's why I say Rocky Marciano is the hardest-hitting heavyweight champion I have seen."

Jersey Joe Walcott himself called Marciano a "one punch artist" and from the quotes I've read never suggested he was caught dog-tired and worn down in the 13th round. Obviously he wasn't fresh as a daisy after 12 hard rounds but you'd have to be crazy to doubt the power of that punch that changed everything.

Many years ago, 60s?The Ring Magazine had a two page article about who was the hardest hitting heavyweight. Nat Fleischer picked Dempsey .Dempsey picked Marciano,as Fleischer noted he was somewhat handicapped, because he could hardly pick himself!

NB There have been a lot of heavyweight punchers since 1953.

If you are referring to the programme," How IT Was" ,Walcott said Marciano hit him harder with a single punch than Louis did , he described Louis as a rhythm puncher.

No he didn't, he said Schmeling took a lot of rounds to stop him whereas Rocky got him out with one or two punches, but he qualified that by saying,"of course I was younger then, you can take more when you are younger," Not quite the same thing.Id say Rocky was marginally a harder puncher than Max.Rocky threw from the fences from start to finish Schmeling was a counter puncher.

He wasn't only an accumulation puncher but his style was that of a grinder and several of his opponents confirmed it.

Walcott stated that as his back hit the ropes and Rocky threw his right blood from the cut above his eyes blinded him allowing the punch to land. He stated that the KO right would never have landed if he saw it coming.
