Why down on G but not Crawford?

Ishida pulled one upset! He had a decent resume but Ishida was nowhere near world class. He had little business in the ring with Golovkin, Williams or Pirog. And so what that Pirog couldn't KO him? The man rarely took fighters out with just one punch(Jacobs being an exception).
Gamboa was a lot smaller, but he was a far more capable fighter than Stevens or Ishida. And it showed on fight night.
There are levels, and Ishida and Stevens barely register.

Golovkin doesn't have to move up to fight bigger men.
Lemieux had 5 pounds on him, Rubio had 8, and Jacobs possibly had over 10 if you believe his camp's claim he would be over 180. Geale rehydrates over 180 as well.

 

1. Like someone else mentioned, age.
2. Crawford is about to unify the division.
3. Golovkin receives WAY more praise/criticism and attention than Crawford.

 

It also didn't help that it was proven that GGG's side was low balling challengers all along, since as soon as they made a good offer Jacobs jumped in the ring.

This is also the case with Wilder's team lowballing challengers. You can't lowball challengers and then say nobody wants to fight you.

 

False. Whenever a media person discusses Crawford, they heap an insane amount of praise on him and never poke holes in his resume. I've seen interviews where the interviewer will flat out say to GGG's face that he's never fought anyone.

 

GGG is also only one belt away from unifying his division too...
I love how people talk about Crawford like a young pup or prospect. In three months he'll be on the wrong side of 30yrs old. His physical peak has already passed.

What i find perplexing is that GGG get pushed to move up in weight all the time - to a barren 168lbs division. Yet nobody is pushing crawford ( who kills himself to make weight) to move up to a LOADED welterweight division.

 

Crawford is suffering from the same dilemma that GGG did: No one wants to fight him..too much risk too little reward. Canelo has looked impressive beating on a tiny Khan, small and past it Cotto and and unskilled Kirkland along with the weight drained half dead Chavez Jr. Does anyone think GGG wouldn't have knocked these guys out handily? Khan was winning all the rounds before he got starched. Why would anyone move up a weight class unless they're chasing big money fight? There are no PPV draws at 168...great hard fighters but no money to be made.

Did a no namer almost put Ishida away? Because a no namer in Michael Farenas badly hurt Gamboa and had him fighting scared for the last leg of the fight. And who just viciously retired Gamboa? A nobody.

Its that but its also the fact that his road leads to WW and that division is loaded with HUGE fights for him.

 

Who's Michael Farenas? Oh yeah, a nobody that took Gamboa deep. Who's Castellanos? Oh yeah, a nobody that just brutally beat down and most likely retired Gamboa.

Ishida KO'd a rampaging Kirkland and went 12 (without being knocked down or brutalized or hurt) with the highly touted Pirog.

Ishida > Gamboa

Dud Crawford will always lay boring 12 round egg fights against elite competition

 

Welter is overrated in my opinion. May and PAC are effectively out by either being half retired or fighting top contenders or UFC fighters.
