None of those fighters complained about punches that weren't fouls, then put themselves in a compromised body position (while the ref missed fouls) that forced him to stop the fight.

 

I dont think anyone disagrees about the stoppage. It should not have been stopped and it shouldve been an 8 count but thats not the big controversy. The big controversy are the supposed low blows which absolutely werent low blows except maybe the last one which was irrelevant by that point. Also Kov didnt look like he was too hurt to continue he looked like he was mentally finished. There wouldve been no comeback it wouldve just delayed the inevitable.

 

How can it be irrelevant if it was the punch that stopped the fight? Again, you're going off of YOUR assumption that Kovalev wouldn't be able to recover and rally back after a 5 minute recovery that he should have been afforded.

Weeks did know better, but instead chose to do what was right for Ward rather than what was right for boxing.

 

There were three consecutive low blows that lead to the stoppage. Those same low blows put Kovalev in that compromised body position.

I meant that Weeks knew better, but it wasn't a matter of knowing or not knowing. Weeks clearly allowed Ward to carry out a sustained attack centered around low blows.

I haven't seen a clear angle of the first one landing low. Kovalev made Weeks skeptical to begin with by complaining about legal beltline blows, then instead of defending himself on the ropes just stood there hunched over waiting for the ref to do something. In any case, he put himself in a defenseless position that none of the other fighters mentioned put themselves in. So the situations are not analogous.

 

Are you being serious right now? Kovalev was folded over because he had just taken three consecutive low blows. And if Kovalev wasn't defending himself, then why didn't Ward take one step to his left finish Kovalev with some crisp uppercuts or hooks to the head? Why target something that is effectively covered by virtue of the body position?

Every inclination and predisposition all four that you had mentioned in your title were that of Men at war, rather than people with defeated mindsets looking for excuses to get away from combat. Thus the scene was set differently by Kovalev and this affects the way the referee will perceive the fight.

They were all up to the task even on ***** street, Kovalev relegated himself to the foetal position.

 

You can fight through being out on your feet (Bradley, for example), but I don't know anyone who doesn't fold over from vicious nut assaults.

 

I only recall one clear low blow by Ward at the very end when he couldn't even see the target properly because Sergey was bowing down to Ward's greatness.

 

Let me know if you get an angle that shows that first of the 3 shots being clearly low.

As I said, Kovalev had already been complaining about legal blows which likely made Weeks skeptical of low blows that could only be evaluated well on replay, after Kovalev was dropping his hands and looking spent against the ropes. In any case, not at all like those other fights mentioned. None of them were fouled, and none of them failed to protect themselves by simply hunching over without defending themselves in a prone position.
