I'M taking this as a reference to me, be more pedantic , its obvious you have comprehension issues!!!
sh-iii-tt and Quarry did better vs the Likes of Bodell, Middleton, Lyle and Shavers than Bugner did!! Quarry did better vs likes of Lyle, than Lyle did! Whats your idiots point?
He probably would've murdered Norton had they fought in the parking lot. Jerry and Oscar Bonavena should've fought, as well as Quarry and Foreman.
J.Quarry was a good white fighter, who gave the fans and promoters what they wanted to see. Physically, he was a cruiserweight, fighting in the beginning of the big heavies (not Super-Hvys) era. Sadly, after retiring, and viewing his old fight fiims thru Dementia pugilistica eyes, he said "I would do it all over again the same, and not change anything". (Quarry vs Ali (2), Patterson (2), Machen, Ellis, Chuvalo, Foster, Lyle, Shavers, Frazier (2), Norton, and deserved a title shot at Foreman after the Shavers fight, but Politics intervened. He did his best)
Haven't read all the posts but some. I love Jerry, would have been a top 10'er in any era but... His KO power was a tad overrated. Show me a top ranked heavy he KO'd! Earnie was still green at the time and look at Mac Foster's career after stepping in against the first Top Contender he every faced. Forman would have had him in bad shape at some point, even after his brain dead meltdown after Ali. Sidebar: Quarry was already going downhill fast by 1974. A poster mentioned Middleton & Bodell as 'BIG' victories?? Come on?! Spencer? 0-7-1 after the Quarry loss and was overrated to begin with. Look at Thad's record going into the tourney? What, on his resume, would have had a couple of sites touting him as the tourney favorite??? He had several draws in his career, in part, because he was a counterpuncher. The Chuvalo fight, I'll admit, was a fluke, he was beating George to a pulp. Another poster mentioned Bonavna. When? After Oscar was long in the whiskers? You might look at the Chuvalo fight as a barometer for that one except that, I don't think, Ringo would have turned into a tomato can. Jerry was a fine, exciting fighter but hardly warrants an ATG top 10 ranking among Heavyweights.
Jerry Quarry didn't get bomb threats when he fought Bodell, where did you get that from? The fact that he did better against the mediocre Bodell than Bugner tells you more about Bugner than him.
