It's sad that the US can't produce great heavyweights any longer and that their residents are forced to follow those who achieve the top ranks in the division.

 

But the European hwts suck.

 

Wlad Klitchko and Joshua defeat him.

Fury could cause problems for such an awkard style and having the reach which could throw Holmes off....50/50.

Guys like Haye would probably beat him at his best bc hes a stronger spinks and in 78 Holmes had not grown into his body...he self admitted he was stronger when he weighed more( he said this after the Witherspoon fight...weight doesnt matter though?)

Off beat fighters like Izu/ whyte/Breazeale/ Pulev/wilder all give him a fight and may also cause trouble ..really this is a tough question bc fighters would adapt better today to figure out past a jab and they arent as basic as Norton was and YES they are bigger now.Holmes LIKED having reach to set things up and didnt look good always against taller guys.

 

Hwt fighters today are horrible technically. Holmes was so much better with fundamentals plus he had good lateral movement which is a rarity today. Holmes would neatly outbox the large, poorer conditioned ponderous hwt seen today.

 

If you switched era fighters and put the 70's guys in today ...you would be saying the SAME thing.....theres a differance between looking at eras and looking at the ACTUAL fighters.You guys dont know how to do that.

And on the 70's fighters they were extremely sloppy at times and not exactly defensivley minded. The only guy that actual resemble a Foreman who was slow and a straight forward fighter is Breazeale , who also eats punches to land one.
