I find Michael Buffer's "let's get ready to rumble" and his holding the fighters last name for about 30 seconds, about as obnoxious as it gets. It is so much more enjoyable to hear a regular, normal professional announcer introduce a fight card, like they did back in the day. How did we ever get to this place where we have clowns like Buffer opening a big card? And have you ever heard Buffer talk in his normal voice. He sounds like a woman. His voice is falsetto, high pitched.
I hate the "fighters are in their corner and they are ready" spiel. No **** they are ready, this pre-fight mumble jumble has been going for ten minutes with both fighters in the ring...gives me blue balls
I've been sick of Buffer for over a decade. Mark Beiro in the late 90s was my favourite. I liked his simplicity and comparative restraint. Professional while giving announcements authentic drama and excitement enough, but he didn't need to use cheesy catchphrases, scream his lungs out, or hold his voice as outrageously as Buffer and most others do. His ring announcing career ended because of health problems.
I wish someday Michael Buffer would sing The Star-Spangled Banner in the ring. I bet he has a beautiful singing voice.
I hate the national anthems more. That should be done at the beginning of the event not before the main fight. It's even worse when I hear our national anthem butchered by a singer's artistic take on it. Bruce Buffer sounds like he's constipated.
In my opinion Buffer is a legend and can do whatever he likes. If you doubt his legend status, go and have a look at his current wife.. LEGEND.
Lol, I LOOOOOVE michael buffer's speech. I love it! Specially the way he introduced erik morales. De la sona norrrrte, baha califorrrrRRRRrrnia, tihuana, meeeeehico!!! erik el terrrRRRrrRRRrrrRRrrible... MoooOOOoOOooorRRRrrrRales!!! I totally love it! I dont know if a speecher can be in the hall of fame (sylvester stallone is, if i'm not wrong), but 100% michael buffer deserves a place in the boxing hall of fame.
He should be reserved to only announce the big fights. He is suffering a case of over exposure, before it use to get the juices flowing for the really big defining fights that would be held in Vegas. Now we have him announcing the likes of Paul Smith and Darren Barker, it just dilutes his brand and talent.
I wish Beiro could've been our top-level boxing guy all these years. Buffer's just indicative of how boxing and society's turned to irredeemable fake spectacle the last 25 years. Mark Beiro on his announcing style: "I take the job very seriously, but not myself. The question I often get by the casual fan is, ‘What is your catchphrase?'... I tell people that my catchphrase is that I don’t have one. I’m not the principal in the ring. The fighters are. The attention should be focused on them. I feel that I get the greatest pride in my work, when I am able to elicit a response from the crowd, without it sounding like a prompting. To me, I feel that is a standard by which announcing should be judged.”
