Punch count scoreboard: yay or nay

I know it takes the Drama out of the fight but I like open scoring.

Punchstats are already taken too seriously as it is. It doesn't show the difference between a hard flush shot and grazing one that lands, and more importantly, it's subject to human error anyway.

People put way way too much stock on it. Jim Lampley probably has some to blame for that because he always brings it up like it means something important. It doesn't.

 

compubox style punch counts is worthless but a video analysis followed by a punch count would be nice.. the analysis would show the more meaningful shots, can tell how significant a punch is by the way it landed - the deformation caused on glove/opponent - the reaction caused on opponent - possiblly even use audio indicating how well a punch landed.

you get a recording of every punch that landed significantly then compare that to video feed to know where that significant punch landed. if it landed in the scoring zone then count it.

 

This has been tried in the amateur boxing. Didn't stop the coruption.

 

So what happens when people start complaining about the person who decides that the punch didn't land significantly? Everyone thought when the NFL put in instant replay that controversy would be over. Its not. Unless someone develops and Artificial intelligence computer that judges fights the same way boxing will always have controversy. If you poll 100 pac fans who say he was robbed and asked them which rounds he in fact won you would get very little consensus on which rounds he won except for the 9th round.

 

I 100 percent agree with this. The more sampling you have the less error you have. Maybe 7 judges for championship fights. Throw out the outliers that are more than 2 rounds from main sample and just do aggregate scoring. This way the judges might be more keen to not having their card thrown out. Give a small bonus for not getting you card thrown out. If you get too many in a row or within a time frame you get suspended.

 

I like my idea better. Every fight is scored by a priest, a rabbi and an imam.

 

Instant replay is badly needed. After a robbery the judges should be shown the fight in slow motion and explain to everyone why they scored the fight the way they did, judges should be suspended for life, new ones trained, same with referees and boxing commissions, boxing needs to be investigated again...............
