mtk scotland have signed lots of boxers over the last 18 months or so but i am starting to hear there is discontent between the boxers and coaches most of them are unhappy with the management from sam kynoch and the wages offered for tough domestic fights I've heard that a few fighters from the east are not happy with the management and find sam very hard to deal with. boxers in the west are saying the same so will the mtk scotland model work? scotland is a very small place and once you get a bad name it is very hard to shift it they seem to think that signing ups loads of fighters is the answer but maybe they should look at more quality signings and building their careers correctly I wonder how many fighters re-sign with mtk scotland once their contracts run down
I attend most of their events and they are good. Also got to know quite a few of the boxers and they seem happy to me because the know when they are fighting and have plans set. Seems you only post sh*t stirring posts tho boxingcrazy -- either slagging boxers trainers or promoters!!!
I'm actually in agreement with boxingcrazy, I've heard a few of the fighters are unhappy at a few things at MTK and would happily sign elsewhere. I enjoy going along to their shows, the production value is good value and recently there has been the odd good fight, in Edinburgh for example Forsyth v Pagan was a decent bout and a few in the pipeline, i.e. Philpbin v McCallum is one to look forward to. But critiscm is far from un-warranted.
I do not know if there boxers are happy or not but likes of Brophy Simmons are busier now there with them than b4. I do wish they would use boxing venues instead of hotels, kelvin hall is Scotlands version of York Hall, if possible would love to see them do fights there, easy for people to get to, and get back from with lots of pubs restaurants within 5-10 min walk
Kelvin hall has shut down its event space now - real shame as it was one of my favourite venues. Not looking forward to braehead this weekend it is too out the road. not been to the hotel shows but lagoon and meadowbank are good venues Anyone know who simmons is boxing this weekend?
Is it that's s a shame about Kelvin Hall, not lived in Glasgow for a few years and it shows ! Used to go to Braehead for Scott Harrison fights nightmare getting a pint afterwards let alone back to Glasgow. For shows around 1000-2000 people I bet Barrowfields or the old Carling Academy would be good. To get such crowds you only need a few fighters on who sell a few hundred tickets each.
Agree moot shame kelvin hall didn't know that ,went a good few year ago was Kevin Anderson vs McIntyre great atmosphere was wee walk down road few beers with the missus at the time cracking nite. Was gd venue. Does ravenscraig hold much ??
Yeah it's a shame good venue and location as were mentioned. Not 100% sure but think racenscraig holds around 1000 or so with seating on floor but never been myself, not for boxing. If promoters want to make boxing a night out they need venues that are located in places for nights out, as it puts a lot of people of. You can swing it with missus if your taking her out in town afterwards but if you go Braehead etc u struggle to get a taxi before midnight after boxing

i never mentioned anything about the quality of their shows @DavidJames but what i have heard is that they are paying peanuts for hard domestic fights, sam isn't the best to deal with and that boxers would happily walk away if sam would allow it. now wether the boxers will speak up to him or just run their contracts down i don't know, but there is usually no smoke without fire and whilst i am happy they are doing shows in edinburgh i just feel that scotland is a very small pool of fighters and if you get a bad name for managing etc then it might not be a long term plan i don't agree that i only post slagging boxers, trainers or promoters off but i will type what i see and hear from people more in the know than most
The reason why traditionally it's been hard to get the good competitive domestic clashes on small Hall shows is money or lack of it without tv. MTK are wanting such match ups which is great but you can understand fighters don't want such contests for the same or similar money they would get fighting s third rate Latvian. Unless they get such bills on at venues that hold 2000-3000 people and sell it out or have decent tv money such match ups won't be financially viable long term.
i understand what you are saying but one fight i am talking about was the recent brian forsyth vs rhys pagan bout at meadowbank. i was there and it was a tough fought 10 rounder, pagan got the decision and afterwards brian retired. i spoke with someone very close to brian and for this scottish title fight his purse was £2k. now for a super middleweight title fight that must be ridiculous money? training hard for 6-10 weeks and then being handed £1200-£1400 for a punishing 10 round war?? no wonder he retired tbh and i would use this as a warning to young boxers that think they will turn over and earn fortunes, it is all bullish*t and the only ones making money are the promoters who would want to coach at that kind of earnings either? £200 for putting in 6-10 weeks of time with a boxer day and day out. i understand most coaches will do it for the love of it but seriously if that was your only form of income then you would be starving
Shocking money but it doesn't surprise me and your right people can't make a living of that, 99% of boxers don't make enough from boxing to live on that's the sad facts, I am a firm believe that those on big money should have to pay a fight fee, for example if on £100,000-250,000 a fight 1% of purse goes into a boxing welfare trust with money going up the more people earn. At bottom end ticket sellers would be better promoting themselves, if your a fighter and you can sell 400 tickets at £40 better doing own deals either that or they should get much more % of ticket sales instead of purse if home fighter as Make more
ravenscraig is about 1000 and is a bit too out the way I think. yes - those getting big money should pay into a welfare trust. small hall shows are apparently very expensive to run - I've read a few articles from promoters down south and the money just isnt there to pay the purses. Only revenue is really sales so if boxers dont sell tickets it just isnt there. it is sad to see such a gap between the guys fighting on tv and those small hall but that is how it is unfortunately I think most boxers know they cant make a living from boxing until they get up to at least british level
