Can a boxer be or was there ever a boxer who's beloved as Ronaldo?

    Even in the US, an American fan ran to the field, stopping the game to hug Ronaldo. There are even crazier things happening in Europe and he's also famous in Asia.

    He has more superstar fame as Michael Jackson had.

    Can a boxer ever reach this status or was there ever a boxer who had such a huge influence? It would be a huge boost to the sport.

    I believe Canelo a few years ago or AJ today have such an impact. Maybe Manny in his prime in the Phillippines as well.

    Football is the world biggest sport, but everybody knows who Ali and Tyson(?) is. Canelo and Pac are not close to thier level of recognision.

    Pacmania was 5 times more intense in the Philippines than Ali was in America.

    Oh sure, I though we were talking word wide impact. In Northern Europe only boxing fans know who he is. Everybody knows Tyson though, even though theyve never seen a fight.

    Pac is a regional icon (phillipins mainly), Ronaldo was a global icon.
