It can be a matter of cultural perspective. Within the African American community such boxing skills as hitting and not getting hit by retreating are considered admirable. In the Mexican community defensive steps which constantly retreat from the opponent are considered a bit cowardly.

That's why De La Hoya who was doing better using defensive skills felt forced to change styles after his loss to Trinidad and subsequent Mexican criticism of his fighting like a girl.

Marvin Haggler accused Leonard as fighting like a girl out of sheer frustration because he couldn't tag him.

Cesar Chavez accused Macho Camacho of fighting like a girl because of his evasive maneuvers.

The real question is why get hit when you can avoid it and win anyway?

When Ali said he is the greatest people run with it because he actually proved it in the ring by virtually facing every one.
While Floyd is a copy cat and few buy TBE moniker except for one or two nuthuggers.

I think he has the sort of self-belief where he's believed it for a long time. Probably since he was at 130. I'm obviously guessing but I think he was just looking for ways since then to "prove" this belief to himself.

He's not the best ever but, off the top of my head, he's top 20 and that's rarefied air.

if you can avoid getting hit you deserve to win. it sounds to me that they were just bitter they weren't good enough. maybe they should have worked on their speed if their opponent could evade everything.

Nah. Floyd played the game right, but he never played the game the right way. Too much ducking, spoiling, fouling, and in the end, doping.

Not only did he put his hands on women, he pointsaid guns at their feet and asks them which toe they'd like blown off first.

Then you have his followers tell you that he just merely defending himself!

If you don't understand marketing then you don't understand TBE. I admire the man's talent and work ethic, it doesn't take rocket science to see his marketing is used to rile suckers up as promotion. And it works EVERY TIME.

I've often wondered when exactly he somehow morphed into the best ever. Was it the Guerrero fight? Maidana II? Ortiz? Hardly scantillating performances, but he made the money and that is what he was after. I think he had a chance to be known as one of the best, but he traded in fighting prime guys at their best for the money, and he made a lot of it. I think down the road he will be known more for the money he made than any memorable performances in the ring and hey, these guys fight for the money so he wins on that score. But the best ever?:pipi
