I think mcness did amazingly well to survive as long as he did. Probably should have been stopped sooner, but there was always the chance by field would punch himself out, or walk onto a big one.....I wouldn't be too hard in the ref or the corner. Mc ness will come again, that wasn't a career-ending beating at all. What's occurring in the crowd though?
If Mcness values his health he'd retire, he has no firepower and a good chin - he'll end up on more beatings like that. I just hope he doesn't collapse after that, the ref should have stopped it and so should have McNess's corner, he was outgunned from the off.
It may not be career ending - but a beating like that against someone who isn't even at British level makes me question the purpose of McNess's future in the sport and his ambitions...
I don't know, it was a pretty bad beating to me. Took a lot of clean shots to the head and as someone in this thread said earlier on he didn't "look well" at the end of round 3. Hope he's alright, ref should have stopped it well before that towel was thrown.
Sad to say it, but as any fan that attends UK boxing shows know, this is not an isolated incident. I haven't been to one UK show where I haven't witnessed crowd trouble. It always happens.
Mcness was alert right to the end, he was rolling with the shots and responding relatively alertly. I think he was gassed as much as concussed. I don't fear for his health, although obviously he will have to sit down with team and family and seriously reappraise his boxing career expectations after tonight, for sure.
Terrible ref, should have stopped it earlier as McNess had nothing left at all. Think Byfield started the trouble by doing the hammers cross on the ropes and shrugging his shoulders after. Bad move sorry to say and no wonder he ran off. Good boxer though and great performance.
Hearn's Josh Warrington shows had a fair share of crowd trouble. I suspect a football fan following is the most common factor for crowd trouble - Josh, LUFC, and Ness, West Ham. I can vaguely recall crowd trouble at other recent cards where fighters' Liverpool &/ Manchester football allegiancies were blamed.
